phil, thats not true only the SI is DOHC VTEC the d16y8 is SOHC VTEC and has extra power over the non-vtec equivelent D16Y4 its noted that the SOHC VTEC is just VTEC, and not VTEC-e, like i've heard some people say. the D16Y5 is VTEC-E, designed for economy and works slightly differently to the regular SOHC VTEC in D16Y8 and D16Y1
lol @ vtec fanboi ok, so i got the si bit wrong, cause i'm not from america...sorry -_- ... also, your an idiot. vtec dosent just add power, it changes the lift of the valves based on a third lobe of the camshaft. vtec-e in the d16y5 uses a different system where it effectively only uses one valve on the intake side, and only opens the second intake valve slightly in order to reduce fuel buildup, this also increases atomisation, meaning a leaner mixture can be used, increasing fuel economy. it stays like this untill vtec kicks in, which is at a speed where the engine needs full lift in both valves in order to breathe properly. the whole idea that vtec=power is bullshit. learn how it works mate. kinda dohc?? lol it either is or it isnt buddy. also fail, out of the D16 motors, the whole D16Ax series were dohc, with the exception of the A6 and A7. its in your bloddy link there...LRN2READ

Dude, thank you! i am so sick of hearing how v tech makes you go fast! BS it means that unless under load or throttleing you go slower, its for gasmileage not power. finally one who understands how it works, been a mechanic for years and we are few. not to mention the b series = dohc... not... i have a 95 accord with the f22b1 and its single i promise ive had it apart more than once.

f22 is a single cam f series, not b series, and is the basis for the dohc h series used in the prelude. the exception to this is the f20c, and f22c1 from the s2000 which are dual cam, derived from the k series engine number...first letter is series, next 2 numbers is capacity, and anyting after that is a variation

Yes EX is the top of the line or full loaded and it has soch vtec and is the same chassis as the Si with the exception of twin cam. CX DX HX LX EX
Vtec is for power! When vtec engages the torque and HP increases. Honda used the engineering from BMW. They designed it. The reason for vtec is to have more power when you want it without hurting fuel mileage. In the lower rpm's or anything below 5500 rpm give or take depending on the motor you will be fuel efficient. But when you want to get on it a pin pushes over locking into the other rocker which rides the larger lob on the cam. Thus opening the valve farther and longer allowing more fuel and air. What does that create. More power. You waste way more fuel while engaged in vtec. You're all dumb!
And an ex is not the top of the line Civic back then. Si model was. And in Japan the Civic hatchback type R. The lx Civic was considered the luxury model, but that was a non-vtec motor.
And the ex is a 127 hp @ 6600 rpm. Not 5500, That's when vtec engages. This is for the 96-00 ex d16y8. And Richard, shut up. You can't even spell vtec correctly (V Tech) I find it hard to believe that you understand it. Vetc-E works differently. But I'm not gonna get into that explanation.
