Advise on buying. Vin reference

Asked by AJOU Jul 11, 2013 at 12:19 PM about the 2009 BMW M5

Question type: General

I found one for sale in dubai but imported from USA.  I need to check history.   I checked
with car fax and it has no history.   0 records.  How would I check if the car is genuine
with no theft or salvage title.

You can call a US dealer with the vin and ask for a DCS report on the vehicle for what has been done in the past under warranty and maybe a old customers contact info.

The best thing to do is get a pre-purchase inspection done by a shop that know's M cars, but have specifically worked on E60 M5's. They should go over everything for an inexpensive cost. You can even get a shop with a paint thickness meter to check if any body work has been done. You also need to test drive it and drive many to get a feel for what good one's feel like and what not so good one's feel like. Never trust carfax as some shops do not report things and some repairs are done under the table. You might not get any info from a BMW shop if you supply the VIN since you are not the owner. You might get a nice guy that may help though so it's worth a shot. Good Luck!

Thank you Robert & Scott, In fact I did check with a dealer in the USA and they ran an internal report. The strange thing is that the car does not show at all in the USA. Has 0 record. It is quit suspicious and I decided to skip on this one. Thanks
