Coolant leak

Asked by Guru1YHJN Aug 25, 2019 at 07:27 PM about the 2009 INFINITI G37

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I took my car to  express oil  for an oil change at Infinity dealer, I was
told by the infinity tech who changed my oil that I have a "severe" coolant
leak.   My car has no obvious symptoms.     I he said I would need to make
an appointment for a diagnostic test.
My question is, should my car be leaking (an obvious leak underneath that I
could see on my driveway?

Yes just pay attention for a few days and watch your coolant level before you drive make sure it’s topped. See if it drops at all after sitting or driving. And while driving make sure you watch your temperature gauge

If it has a leak ( severe ) you would be low on antifreeze and smell it as well see it. Fill with antifreeze. don't just fill but wait a few minutes before catnapping to see if it recedes and needs more, If so add till it stops receding. purge the system . Then cap it , crank the car and let it idle to working temperature . look for the cooling fan to come on. The cooling should be pressurized at that point. Turn the car off and look for any leaks on the ground after a few minutes. Trace the leak.

Thanks - temperature gauge is normal - Guess I will keep an eye on the coolant level- If level is going down, should I see coolant see it leak out on my driveway?

Usually, unless it gets pushed out at temperature and speed only.

if the system is pressurized and you have a leak it should be evident especially if it is "severe" as you stated you were told
