1997 Ford Ranger battery not charging, light on, alternator replacement

Asked by LGMcE Jun 23, 2019 at 07:37 PM about the 1997 Ford Ranger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Battery light comes on & off intermittently. Battery is not holding a charge.

Replaced the alternator, didn't work. Took it back to store for testing & passed.
So not the alternator according to Napa.

Had my mechanic (who has been certified & specializes in Ford trucks btw)
test the voltage of both the battery & fuse-able link. He said nothing is wrong
with either.

The mechanic also says he thinks the alternator is bad except the store won't
return it because it passed their test. We've tried the old, new & another
alternator with same results, nothing... Help!

It's going to be a faulty' new" alternator or battery. How old is the battery. if it's 3 years old or older it's time for a replacement.
