My 2003 Hyundai Elantra will not start and there is no clicking noise.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra that will not start. When I turn the key there is no clicking sound and the power in the rest of the car still work. The starter was just replaced and it worked for a while but now it is doing the same thing again. Also the last time I started the car up the shifter was a lot harder to move than normal. Any ideas?

Possibly faulty neutral safety switch
Would that also explain the hard shifting problem as well?
Yes. With the issues you are having that's what I would check first.
Ok I will have to check this out when I get home in a little bit thanks.
This seems to be a common problem with these cars. Try putting in neutral and trying to start car.

Do you know off hand where the switch is located. It would be next to the transmission I am assuming?
Also it might sound bad and I doubt I will be driving it much afterwards but if I am to bypass the switch by starting it in neutall will it have any ill affects on the car?
