Engine light/loss of power

Asked by laceyf Dec 24, 2015 at 05:08 PM about the 2010 Honda Fit

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The check engine light started blinking and
the car seemed sluggish like it was losing
power. I could only reach about 25 mph.
It's a 2010 Honda Fit- manual
transmission. When in neutral, the engine
light turned off. Other online forums said it
could be failure of the catalytic converter.
Anyone else have this issue before I take it
to the dealership?

laceyf- I realize this is an old post, but this answer may benefit folks who find this while searching to solve their problem today. Fit ignition coil packs (Honda calls this the plug top coil but coil pack is a more common term) are well known to yield stuttering/stumbling/misfiring as they age. The MIL may flicker at first, then as the problem gets worse, it may remain lighted steady. The codes set will be P0301,302,303 & 304 for the 4 cylinders (P0300 is random misfire no particular cylinder). Many postings on the FitFreak owners bulletin board say you'll get best results with Factory OEM Hitachi coil pack. The Hitachi part number is IGC0053. Honda dealers charge $100 and up but you can find them online for less than half that. They are easy to replace, all you need is a 10mm socket and a short extension.
