oil pressure too low/epc light
Hello , please help me! I have an Audi A5 1.8 tfsi and I got a light on
dashboard when i start the engine, saying "switch off engine oil pressure too
low". It came on and beeped light for 3 times then stopped. There is another
error that appears when i accelerate the car over 4.000 rpm, the EPC light
comes on with the message "Do not exceed 4000 rpm". I changed both
sensors (blue&brown) 2 times, but no result ! What should i do ? Sorry for
my english mistakes btw.

The EPC light comes on because there is one of the following problems: - Fuel pressure sensor harness is open or shorted - Fuel pressure sensor electrical circuit poor connection - Faulty fuel pump - Blocked fuel filter - Fuel line restricted - Faulty fuel pressure regulator - Faulty fuel pressure sensor The computer has detected something that can damaged the engine and has put it into safe mode. I think that you should take the car to the Audi dealer or a reputable mechanic, to have it checked and the problem corrected. Oh, and I did not have any problems reading your post.
I read many forums before and everyone says that EPC LIGHT comes on when there is insufficient oil pressure at high rpm...
Yes, correct, I only sited to you a few of the reasons for the light to come on. The EPC detects numerous functions of the engine and, as in your case, oil pressure is low. Your car has an auxiliary light that indicates the exact problem, while in others, the codes must be run to find the cause. Again, take the car to have it checked to avoid yourself possible big problems.
I checked it, the oil pump is ok, the brown pressure switch is OEM, the blue one is HELLA . what should i do further ?
Alex, how do you know that the oil pump is ok? Did you perform an oil pressure check with a mechanical gauge. OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer, a company that produces parts for other manufacturers. HELLA is a Geman manufacturer of automobile parts. If the warning lights are still on, what you need to do is have the car inspected by a mechanic. Obviously, you cannot ascertain what the actual problem is, neither can I from a distance. But we know that it is related to the oil because of the "oil pressure too low" and "do not exceed 4,000 RPM.
The oil pressure is 1 bar, the mechanic told me that it's a good value. He also told me the pump is almost new. The error on VCDS was at the brown switch. Maybe it's a wire problem
Well, if you had the car checked by a mechanic and he feels that one bar of oil pressure in the gauge is good; and that the pump is almost new, then you should not have to worry about any problems. If the codes are gone after you replaced the brown switch, so much the better. Just keep an eye on the instruments (gauges) for a few days. Good luck!
I am having the same problem with my 2011 Q5 (3.2). With regards to the “oil pressure too low” I have to get an oil pump. The dealer quoted me a cost of $1,500.00
The mechanic told me that the oil pump is almost new.
Low oil pressure with an almost new pump? Wow I also had to replace the tensioner’s, and the sensor as a precaution.
I have the exact same problem on a 2012 Audi A5, "SWITCH ENGINE OFF OIL PRESSURE TOO LOW" What fixed your Audi?
Did you find a solution for your problem I have my 2011 q5 giving me the same issues plus a codes for crank and camshafts sensors and oil pressure sensor and intake manifold sensor your input is appreciated!!
I had to replace the Tensioners and get a new oil pump.

Sorry my car Audi Q5 2.0 Diesel 2013 also get this message too, so after change tensioner and new oil pump will be fixed it?
After the new oil pump and new tensioners I haven’t had any issues (Thank God)
I got the “oil pressure too low” message as I parked at the airport this morning. I have an 2011 Audi Q5. Will I be able to make it to the dealership to get fixed when I’m back in town or will I need to get towed? What was your experience after the light came on?
I had the same problem. Audi opened the engine and it was a piston. Mileage is only 59000km but apparently the 2008-2012 2.0TFSI engine was problematic
I replace the one pin oil pressure switch at the oil filter, but no change. Where is the 2nd sensor that was mentioned? Part number? The VCDS code that is coming back: 5582 - Oil Pressure Switch for reduced Oil Pressure - P164D 00 [036] - Malfunction The low pressure warning light comes on at low rpm/idle and goes away at higher rpm.
I am having the same problem with my Audi Q5 TDI Quattro, 2013. For mroe than a month I'm going from one mechanich to the other, but still nothing. Is there anyone who had this problem and fxed it??? I am attaching the photo to see what sign I have.

Phoebe, has the light come back on after your new fuel pump and new tensioners? And how much was all of that? I'm at the Audi repair shop right now.
The light has NOT come back on. I spent a little over $2,800 at a private mechanic. Keep in mind this is a labor intensive job, so the labor rate is where the dealerships gets you.
I am having the EPC issue with my Audi Q5 and it won’t start. I can’t get to the dealership because it’s 5 hours away in Fargo ND. I called around to see who services Audi and I have no luck so far. Any suggestions?
I had the exact same problem with my 2010 Audi A5, it's the Timing Chain Tensioner that was defective which makes the oil pump warp. It's a class action lawsuit that was won
It's you had a timing chain Tensioner issue and oil pump, Audi will fix it for free. Or if you paid for it already, submit a claim and u will be refunded. I paid 4,000 and when the claim was won, I received a refund check.
Lawsuit won for timing chain Tensioner issues and oil pump. Free fix at Audi or refund
@Sha to get the reimbursement would I had needed to go to Audi for the repairs? I went to a private mechanic for repairs but I purchase the oil pump from an Audi dealer in Georgia.
You just gotta have you receipt for the repair from a private mechanic and proof you was getting oil changes which is easy. Audi requires every 10,000 miles for oil change. A
You can submit a claim on this site for reimbursement or if you got the problem now and need to be fixed, you can just drive to Audi and they fix for free. A worker at Audi told me about this lawsuit.
@Sha, thanks for the information. I appreciate it.
It also comes with a 5 year warranty or 100,000 miles from the time it was repaired. All Audi's have this problem, they on there 5th timing chain piece.
Also if any part of your engine damaged like pistons or internal parts inside the engine they will fix for free. I had a code that read camshaft and crankshaft sensor, which Audi said means timing chain Tensioner is faulty.
@Sha, this is awesome information that I you so much. I’ll keep you posted
I was told that class action suit was only for 7 years from the date the car went on the road. I have all 3 issues in my A5. Turbo out, oil consumption test failed and EPC light and the dealer tells me I am out of luck, the car has been outside the 7 years even given 58k miles.

I have the same problem can i get mines fixed for free i have a Audi A5 2012. Please help.
@teeatlaudi, yes you can get it fixed for free as long as you have a verification from a diagnostic scan, your car had oil changes every 7,000 miles. Audi will do there own scan also.Be sure to let Audi know about class action lawsuit that was won. I put the information to verify on website in a previous message.
I am having the same issue on my 2010 A5 2.0T, with the oil pressure low and EPC light coming in. Can someone point me in the direction where I can get the info for the Class Action law suite?
My audi Q5 2011 2L same problem oil pressure too low switch off engine.
The problem is when it say oil pressure to low when accelerate over 4,000 rpm, it the oil pump has warped. I had the same problem along with timing chain Tensioner issues. Audi is aware of these issues. It was a class action lawsuit that was won over these issues. They fixed mines for free and refunded me any money I put out relating to these issues.
There is a recall on "Oil consumption" already that Audi will fix for free. If you getting a message saying oil pressure to low. It's for sure you oil pump has warped out of shape. Cause the aluminum oil pump they used cant take the heat over time.Audi worker aware me of this. Lawsuit was won.. The codes is letting you know the engine went into safe mode.
All I need to do is call Audi and tell them that oil pressure is low and tell them about the lawsuit claim
Failed Tensioner caused catastrophic damage to my engine requiring a replacment. after 4 months Audi's Settlement Website sent me notification that I submitted my claim after the deadline. today, I filed 2 small claims suits against volkswagen/audi for reimbursement of 6400.00.
Selam muhtemelen arızanı çözmüşsündür,bu arıza mavi olan yağ müşüründen yada müşürün elektrik tesisatından kaynaklı.tabi motorda bir sıkıntı yoksa.düşük yag basıncı şalter arızası alıyorsanız,p164D00 .bu arıza motor alt ikinci karterinde bulunan, yag pompa alçak ve yüksek devrini ayarlayan selonoid valfinden kaynaklı.yani yag pompa şarteriniz arızalı.
I bought an Audi en Guatemala. There's no way you can get it fix for free. The dealer cannot fix the problem.... 3 weeks and they cannot do it! Now they say they will call me to let me know probably about that it will cost more money to fix something else.... I wish I never have gotten that car.

The answer to this is inside the oil filter housing under the oil filter is the oil filter housing post and when it breaks coz its just plastic it blocks the oil port from the filter. Guaranteed this is your problem . Everyone always jumps to worse case scenario but if you take care of to your car it's likely only something simple . Cheers Murray

Syed Najib answered 4 years ago
after changed the oil pressure sensor still the problem happen. Now my mechanic says need to change the oil pump
walt67able answered 4 years ago
Answer is here in my previous post , inside your oil filter housing just under your oil filter when you remove it is your oil filter housing post its like a cone shaped plastic cage most likely its broken and won't let your oil flow.
How can you tell that post is broken? Is it obvious?

I have same issue. But it only shows when my revs drop. When I drive it’s not showing that error.

I have a 2012 Audi A6. I’ve been getting this EPC warning when hitting the gas. Goes out when I restart my car. Yesterday Audi said it was my Oil Pressure Switch. $100 for the switch and $600 labor. Sounds like a regular issue with these cars. Was there a lawsuit for this issue? Is that lawsuit still active?
CHANGE THE OIL HAUSING! change this part. it worked for me.
