How much to replace an ac compressor clutch for 2010 Honda Civic?

Asked by Moto Aug 16, 2017 at 02:48 AM about the 2010 Honda Civic

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 Honda Civic, It was running smoothly up till now, but the AC
Compressor just destroyed itself this past Friday. Sounds like this is a honda
civic common problem for the car? Either way, the dealership shop is quoting
me $1,600 to replace the compressor, clutch, serpentine belt and for an AC
recharge. Does this sound about right? Or am I getting hosed? I want to buy
ac compressor from HexAutoParts.com, ac compressor
for sale at 110$ !

It depends hoe confident you are in your mechanic skills. Honestly, it wouldn't be a huge job but there are certain steps you would need to take before taking it on. Before removing any AC system parts from your vehicle you would need the refrigerant evacuated from the system itself. Then look on youtube for relevant videos to get the job done for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5YmImqycus You may want to replace the Dryer or Drier as well. You can do it, just take it slow. You'll save quite a bit of $$. Good luck!

Also, you may have to replace the AC condenser which looks like a smaller version radiator. This is because when your old compressor locked up or "destroyed" itself it may have sent pieces of metal into your condenser which would circulate back into your new compressor and destroy it as well.

I have a 2018 Honda Civic with 66K miles on it. The Honda sent us a letter extending the warranty on AC Condenser. However, on 08/12/2021, I took the car to Honda dealership in Tracy, California. I was told that the AC compressor is defect and needs replacement with $2200 cost. I was told that the problem is usual and it is not covered by the extended warranty. Right now, I am thinking if this is usual problem for Honda that the AC compressors that are supposed to last 10 to 15 years, fail just after 3 years or if the dealership in Tracy, California made a wrong diagnosis with so much cost
