how do I test drive with out giving payment info etc.

They should only need your driver's license and a copy of your insurance card/proof of insurance. You should not have to give them bank info. Try another dealer if you have options in your area. Maybe try calling ahead to see what's required, and make an appointment so they are expecting you.
Dress up a bit might help as well. Look like you can afford the car. I will say, however, car dealers tend to discount women as solo shoppers (I am assuming you are going alone). I am helping my mom find a car, and we get better service if my husband comes along. Sad but true. She's the sole decision maker, and many of us are, but the dealers don't treat us as such.
