2010 F150 shifting out of park
I have a 2010 F150 5.4L with a 6 speed
auto. I live in an area where it gets really
cold and washed my truck when it was
about 25 degrees out. About 2 days later
the teperture dropped to 15 below zero
and the next day to 34 below zero. When
that happened when I got in my truck and
tried to shift out of park but the shifter was
acting like my foot was not on the break
and wouldn't shift, so I would have to
pump the break a couple of times and turn
my wheels side to side and would
eventually shift into drive. It only does it
when first started, but if I shut it off and
start it back up it does it again. So could it
be a bad sensor or a frozen sensor?
If, once the shift lever is freed will it shift through all the gears? If after driving for a while, you park and turn off the car, placing it in park, if you try to start the car immediately, will it shift out of park? Or do you have to wait a while for it to get stuck? Minus 34 degrees is extremely cold. Could be affecting linkage or electrical components.
also, check your owners manual. There may be a shift interlock release button somewhere on the vehicle. If your shift handle is a stick type, it's usually under the cup holder, so you may have to remove the knob and top portion of the console to get to it. It's manually operated and simply moves a small tap which prevents the lever from moving, out of the way. There may be u- tube videos on releasing the interlock manually.
The fusebox connectors can get corrosion over time. I just worked n a 2010 Ford F150 that would not shift out of park, had no ac, no radio, door chimes would not work (with key in ignition). I checked all fuses and none were blown. Brake switch tested fine. I finally just started unplugging the connectors from the kickpanel fusebox and re inserting. Must have had corrosion or not getting good connection cause once I pulled the main one with the white release tab and plugged it back in everything started working.
