MY 1997 TBIRD V8 4.6 IS WAS OVERHEATING THE SECOND I SLOWED DOWN BECAUSE THE FANS WERENT WORKING ,NOW ITS STAYING COOL IN TOWN STOP AND GO BUT THE SECOND I GET ON HYW ABOVE 40MPH THE TEMP RAISES AS QUICK AS MY SPEED DOES BY THE TIME I HIT 55-60 THE TEMP IS TO THE TOP LINE RITE BEFORE THE RED . THE SECOND I SLOW DOWN MY TEMP IMMEDIATELY DROPS AS WELL TO RUNNING TEMP. HELP !!

May be stuck thermostat,or bad water pump.

check and see if it has two cooling fans if not its probably temperature switch and if you have to fans it needs more air flow at a slower speed or sitting still
Y would it nd more airflow at lower speed if its only getting hot at higher speeds
Sounds almost like a water pump slipping. Maybe the impeller has come loose and is slipping. I don't think a thermostat would cause what you are having.
