Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 BMW 530i and the transmission has failed. Repairing it will cost anywhere from $3,500-7K. It has 75K miles on it. I need advice. Should I spend the money to rebuild/replace the transmission or should I trade it in?

Thanks for responding! Hi Tom, No, it hasn't failed completely and I can still drive it. It labors going up hills and sometimes jerks into gear from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th (happening more often lately). My mechanic says it could last for 5 more miles or 5 more years, there's just no way to predict. He doesn't think I should sink that much $ into it because he could fix this problem and then, who knows, it may need another major repair. I love my car but I'm not a gambler and this seems like a gamble.

You're best bet is to source a used known good transmission.
