No power after oil change

My son has a 2011 Chevy Malibu
that he just purchased, but said
the dash said to get oil change
soon and when I checked there
was no oil at all. I told him to put in
the oil and he put in the entire big
can of oil and 2 other small ones.
Now the car doesn't take off as
quick and has no power, he did
overfill the oil, but what could be
the issue?

Wow, what would be wrong with pulling out the dipstick and checking the oil?
