My car loses power when I accelerate. I have noticed this when entering the motorway on a slight downhill on the slip road. I have run a diagnostic test with a code reader and nothing appears?

try checking for vacuum leaks. This could also be a throttle body issue. I had a 2012 jetta recently and the throttle plate came loose inside the housing. it never threw a code till finally the computer attached to it couldn't get the right metered amount of air. if you hear a rattle while giving it gas this could be the issue.

have had a similar problem never got a solution

that is a one in a million type question it could be any number of issues with the car to make it stop. But let me ask you this. does the car still run and or turn over ? and is the belt or chain still there .

check your antifreeze spliter under the throtle body if its spliting or orignal the rad sensor may be causing this.

Just check your fuel pump it also dose that when is old not pumping sufficient petrol to the injectors.

I tried to install new fuel pump but no difference, I even tried new coil no luck

I have a 2006 Jetta 2.5 gas. The problem started 12-18mths ago where upon cold start and driving within 15mins or so, i'd power ?!! The (temporary) resolution was simply to release the gas oedal and accelerate again. However within the last 2 weeks of -20c weather I've had to boost my battery/car almost every morning?!?! The battery is only 2 yrs old. So what do these issues have in common? Well I discovered at 4am this morn that my brake lights were ON, car parked in driveway since 7pm. This is obviously the cause for my battery drain issue!!! So why brake lights? After speaking with a friend, looks like his wife had a similar issue with her Audi. It was the brake light switch... Faulty or worn. As I've noted, losing acceleration was always when I first started the car. Once it heats up inside, no issue. So a faulty brake switch (braking) would indicate to computer to cut the engine.. hence the loss of power even though you're not actually braking! Im going to verify rhe switch asap.

had the same, loss of power after bout 50 km of ride (motorway, constant 3,5 - 4k rpm). No able to accelerate on 2nd gear over 40km/h, then engine shutted down completely. Not able to start engine again. Golf 4, 1.4 petrol, year 2001

I have a 2001 golf mk4. It seem to be stuck in gear 3. On the highway it doesn't go beyond 80kph even with more stepping on the gas peddle. Revs are high at but speed stays the same or slower on a hill. What could be the problem? No engine lights no codes showing yet

My 2002 Golf does a similar thing. I lose half my electrical. Like the radio loses power and the abs light comes on. The car loses most of it’s power when this happens. It will idle erratically and barely drive. If I turn the car off and on it sometimes fixes it. The battery is often dead when this happens so I stop on a hill if possible. I haven’t figured it out yet.

I have a '03 2.0L mk4. It losses power when accelerating, engine light in the dashboard was blinking. Engine starts to shake when I accelerate. I can't go over 80kph even if my foot is fully pressed on the gas. I went to my mechanic for help. He replaced one of my fuel injectors as it was dirty and clogged. He mentioned there was not enough fuel injecting into engine. It solved my problem. He told me to use fuel injector cleaner (or fuel system cleaner) everytime I fill a full tank. This would prevent build-up of dirt in the fuel injector.

The problem might be a cracked or damaged coil pack there no power or not enough power going to your distributer I had the same problem a few months ago I had to replace the coil pack

Okay guys one thing i noticed is that the web is full of solutions but this is something people struggle with for years. Solution. Take out your fuel pump and get a new one remove your filter and insert a new one and last of all remove your fuel pressure regulator it will be a 3.0bar regulator, make sure to replace it with the 3.5 bar gti regulator and i promise you guys it will run like hell again. I struggle with my golf mk4 almost 2mnths and searched high and low just to spend money on stuff that gave me no change in power and cut off but after replacing those parts BOOOM All problems solved and its 1year and a half later. The pic showes all the parts i replaced with no difference before i actually replaced those mentioned parts and whala all is well now... Feel free to contact me for and step by step guidance.
