sorry to break the bad news but the "check engine light" ain't got nottin to do with how much fuel is in the tank.Go find a friend to explain it to you or read your owner's manual or find an honest mechanic BUT DO DO one of the 3 suggestions.

I will grant it to you tennisshoes- you are an eternal optimist. OKAY : I will TRY TO FOLLOW YOUR LEAD on optimism, and I already read one of you answers with safety in mind.[ glass half empty or glass half full]. Bang on re:1/4 tank - I never let mine below 1/2. .....and Jaxrog- if you feel you want some assistance here rather than a friend walking you through it then by all means get a free code scan & get back with code(s).......Just DO NOT let them sell you a sensor and then assume that the problem is fixed.

Yes it will - and sometimes (not often) that will fix it. But the oiriginal question required that it get checked out. Sometimes that check engine light left unattended will lead to major costs down the road. A d.i.y. doesn't ask a qestion about a Check Engine Light and imply that the amount of gas in the tank might be the cause. jaxrog got the answers based on the question. Find a friend, find a mechanic, find someone to read the code.
