2012 Ford Escape won't start after putting in gas

2012 Ford Escape won't start after putting in gas. it starts the second attempt and then I have to rev the engine to keep it on. Once I drive away, it is fine.

My thought is to check the evap system. when fueling, the fumes in the gas tank are stirred up, if the evap system allows those rich fumes into a hot engine, it can cause problems.
