No heat overheating and radiator spitting fluid

Asked by Smuserallo Feb 08, 2019 at 08:28 PM about the 2012 Subaru Legacy

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Temperature red. Spitting coolant. Happened
2 months ago but had numerous idiot lights
on and had temperature control sensor fixed
because that was what came up when tested
when check engine light was on. Blows cold
air.

The heater core is at the highest point in the system, if it's blowing cold air, it's most likely low on coolant or possible the thermostat is stuck and not letting water flow, could also be a bad water pump but that is usually accompanied with a growling noise. I'd change the thermostat. It's the cheapest, easiest place to start

Where is the coolant spitting from? If this was not a FB engine I would suspect the head gaskets.
