Why did battery icon light come on in my car?

Your alternator is either not charging, you have a loose belt, corroded terminals, or your battery is going bad. You can bring it to an Autozone and they can test your alternator to see what it's putting out for volts. Then have them put the volt meter on your battery and see how many volts it reads with the engine off. Have them check the belts also.
Thank you I appreciate the help.
Reelin68 I can guarantee you he knows what he is talking about,The batteries they are putting in new Corollas and Camrys, and even Avalons these days are not high-quality. Toyota has done some cost cutting and that, batteries are one of the 'victims', the "True Start" last until the warranty runs out an go kaput. But your 2012, even thought not still under "Toyota Care" with free maintenance, be sure to check with the dealer before spending any money. IF it is the battery, it may have at least a pro-rated warranty, depending on the date of sale and mileage (3 years 36,000 miles) or if they consider battery and alternator part of drive-train, 60,000 miles /5 years. Wouldn't hurt to ask. A 2012 is far too soon for these kind of problems
