Sounds like all that you need to do is "pair" your cell phone/smartphone to the vehicle itself via the sound system in the car. I did this with a 2012 Ford Fusion and it was pretty simple with the voice prompts via the car's sound system. Make sure you turn your phone's Bluetooth setting to "ON". Shouldn't take more than a few mins. especially if you have the Microsoft Sync that the Fusion had. Owner's Manual should have info. on this.
Sync is a common option on most new model fords. in which case as the previous answer stated you must pair your phone. and it is fairly easy, some phones are not compatible. If you have sync there should be a button with a phone on it. it will tell you no phone is paired and it will give you step by step instructions on how to pair it. your phone must have bluetooth. it will show up on your phones bluretooth menu as SYNC
