Coolant leak

Asked by sipho Aug 03, 2017 at 01:08 PM about the 2013 Audi A4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2013 A4. It keeps loosing coolant, took it the dealer and they said the
radiator is leaking. Is there a temporal way fix to the problem besides replacing
the radiator.

There are temp fixes, but remember they are temporary, they sell radiator sealers at any auto parts store, some people have even used eggs lol, don't do that though, remember just like a tire plug it will only last so long

I used JB Weld steel stick to patch a hole in the radiator of my 1998 Caviler worked! I put about 3000 miles on it with no leaks and it was on the seam just above a bracket about the size of a pencil tip. I had to redo it when we pulled the radiator to flush the system because I had layered it over the brace and could not get it out without grinding it down. I used it again but sealed it with JB Weld epoxy this time to make sure I got a complete seal the first time. I had to keep patching small leaks the first time as it was hard to get a good seal due to its location. I highly recommend this if you can not afford a new radiator (and the other stuff like antifreeze and hoses etc.) right away because if your going to replace the radiator do it right with new hoses and such! Unfortunately I am not replacing mine due to not being able to get the thermostat (needs replaced its stuck) out because the previous owner\mechanic over tightened or locktighted the bolts and we can not get them out without breaking the housing or drilling them out. Pissed me off. Good luck!
