No acceleration
Asked by Benpgreen4 Dec 28, 2017 at 04:41 PM about the 2013 Nissan Sentra
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My wife bought a Nissan Sentra about twenty months ago
from carmax. Earlier this year it started having
acceleration issues. We have a decent warranty. Carmax
has had this car extendedly over the past several months.
They put in a new transmission. Same problem. They
replaced the fuel pump. Same problem. It is a sporadic
issue. It occurs randomly a few times a day. There is no
engine light and no diagnostic code. I drove it yesterday
and at one point had the pedal all the way to the floor with
no engine rev. Carmax is now acting crazy because
there’s no issue when they test drive it. What else can I
get them check? A friend told me it’s probably mechanical
rather than electrical and that’s why carmax can’t pinpoint
the exact issue. Any ideas?

Without more information it is hard to tell but I would suspect the transmission if it is a CVT.

CVT? Im no car expert, unfortunately, but the transmission was already replaced with a brand new one directly from Nissan. today for example it did it again, and it wouldn't accelerate, then it would catch and give a short burst.
Nissan's CVT (continuous variable transmission) is the worst CVT ever made and has a lot of problems. Without more information I still suspect the CVT.

ohhh okay, I see what you are saying, the transmission that supposedly doesn't shift gears, i heard something about it. It's supposed to supply a smoother ride, am i correct? I don't much about them good or bad.
CVT's are supposed to provide better fuel economy but they have not worked out very well in practice.

okay I will keep that in mind when i take the car back to carmax. we are cash trapped so i cant afford to take the car anywhere else, i must rely on carmax because of the warranty.
Nissan might pay for the transmission as they are replacing a lot of these transmissions. Good luck.

Thank you. The first transmission replacement was covered under the carmax warranty.
It's A CVT software issue. There was a class action law suit against Nissan that thousands of us missed after buying a Nissan after lawsuit ended
My daughter purchased a 2015 Nissan sentry from Carmax in Arizona and she is having the same problem. Any suggestion as to how to get this problem resolved.
HI I have a problem with my Nissan Sentra 2004 1.8 SE, it don't accelerate at all, check engine on with code P1122, P0222,P0123, P2135. My mechanic tried on other nissan my nissan throtell and the sensor of the accelerator pedal, and everithing works fine on the other car. He told me I have to take the car to han electromechanic, to see if is something on the electric cables. Did some one have this problem, and find how to fix it. I need help.
It's not the CVT... Go back to CarMax tell them to reset the gas pedal...had this same problem... It's the Nissan electric throttle body, go through the relearn procedure the first replace the electric throttle body.... https://youtu.be/CR-AjHCslhs go to this link it will show you how to do so... But it's better if a mechanic does it for you
Hello my nissan dualis 2008 also expriencing this But it shows code p1124 and p1531 I tried to replac throttle body, ecu and front fuseboard...but nothing works am confused but after reset it runs very good even longest distance but when you try to switch engine off and restart it,the engine light comes again with the same codes ,no accelerating....these cars....mmmmmmm
Im having the same exact problem. I’m paying to fix stuff that isn’t broken and nobody can tell me what the problem is. It’s making me nuts. I’ll be driving fine then the car won’t accelerate and the RPMs shoot up. Have to pull Iver turn car off and restart it to fix the problem temporarily. No mechanic believes me
Im having the same problem as above^ car will be driving fine then out of nowhere wont accelerate and the RPM’s shoot up. Re-starting the car seems to help (just me to where its safe to pull over/home if I'm close). Its at the Nissan dealership currently, will let everyone know the diagnostic.
I’m having the same problem with my Nissan Sentra 2016. I’m so scared to drive it. It started doing it today. it won’t accelerate or it shift gears weird it feels like it’s going to turn off..it also makes this weird grinding noise. I’m taking it to the dealership tomorrow...
Ok so I see alot of people are having the same problem I had it as well I went thru every forum I could find and nothing helped until I took it a little deeper and thought a bit on my own and I came up with it had to be the throttle body at first I was going to replace the entire thing but mechanic wants 280 just to put it in I can do it myself but it has to be programmed sounds hard rite not really YouTube has a video of it and it's super easy I tried it and took my car on the highway and I'm now able to do well over 100 mph. Hope this helps out
I have an 04 sentra s 1.8 . Had issues with the acceleration, idol etc. Turned out to be a bad wire on the pig tail to the coolant sensor. I had replaced the sensor just before this started. Went through several new parts and just happened to move the wires for the coolant sensor and the fan came on(limp home mode?) Car started acting up. Went to the junk yard, pulled 3 different ones.. checked them all and found 1 with minimal ohm resistance. Soldered itn
I believe you’re right. We fixed that and it’s not accelerating smoothly but it’s no longer getting stuck like it was. I can now use my AC and phone charged at the same time. Before that would trigger the problem.

Ok, I have the shudder issue 48,000mi, so throttle body will fix it? And all I need to do is the idle air volume relearn?
Guru9962CS answered 4 years ago
Im having the same issue, 2012 sentra, issue started back in 2013 they replaced all kinds of parts at Nissan, then it stopped and now years later it's doing it again ill be on the freeway coming to a stop and when I try to accelerate the car won't move, I'll have to turn off my car and turn back on and it works.

So I replaced the throttle body, new spark plugs, reset the gas pedals, new air filter, new brakes, ran a reader on it nothing comes up, having the transmission fluids changed, im running out of ideas, I dont want to keep spending money on stuff that doesn't fix the issue...
is it normal for nissan sentra to rev around 3.1 to 3.5 in high way speed around 80 Miles? I have 2014 sentra 1.6 engine
