The 3.7L V-6 in the Jeep Liberty (4.0L Inline six was never available in the Liberty line-up) is an excellent engine which has been in use since at least 2003 across the Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler lines. Expect excellent longevity. You will want to make sure you keep up with your oil changes as early 3.7s had some engine sludging issues which have mostly been corrected with the newer engines.
If you want long life with little maintenance, go for the CRD (Diesel) model. MUCH LESS MAINTENANCE and better long life.
Have already gotten 316,000 miles on 2004 jeep liberty. Hav8ng to replace oxygen sensors. Hope I can put many more .
Had 2 (not ready) on inspection probably because battery had been jumped, how many miles will i need to drive to reset everything n pass inspection
Got my 2011 in 2013 with 55,000; have since put just over 100k (lived in remote part of AZ for the first 1.5 years with it; the past 3.5 years I've lived in Benson, AZ and commute to Tucson (apx 100 miles round trip)....I keep it maintained with some excellent mechanics; oil changes; etc....have a very famous car dealer friend in Tucson and he told me to expect apx. 300,000 (yes I have the 3.7 V6)
At age 75, I just bought my 2012 Liberty last May (2019). It had 179k hwy miles on it at purchase. I LOVE my Jeep! It runs beautifully and came with a Carfax to die for. I made a promise to my vehicle that I would keep up the same awesome service history that came with it. I haven't done any trips to speak of, but plan to add a few thousand more miles this Spring and Fall of 2020. Other than weird gear-ratio issues (you have to learn the transmission), after few hours behind the wheel I applied my lessons, then...no problem! I've accepted the low gas mileage now, and would never let it make me change my mind about "Berty"!!!
