Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a GMC 1500 Sierra 1989.  When I went to turn my truck off the ignition is stuck it will not turn, but the truck is still running.  I can take my key out but the truck will stay running. What is the problem? I called a locksmith and they said it was something in the steering column.

it is the mechanical part of your ignition switch in the column. not hard to replace. vids on youtube can help. you will end up with a new set of keys, and your new keys wont work in the door. you will have to keep an old one for the door and have 2 keys on your ring, just like the old days.
