auxiliary battery malfunction

We own a 2014 E350. "Auxiliary Battery Malfunction" has twice appeared since we've owned the car. First time while it was still under the manufacturer's warranty so the dealer replaced it. And again a couple weeks ago. The auxiliary battery is located in the trunk next to the spare tire (in our model). It's small, like a motorcycle battery. Unfortunately, the car is no longer under warranty. My husband ordered one online (about $120) and installed it today. The malfunction indicator on the dash disappeared so, yay, the problem is fixed for now. It's a shame that the battery has twice failed in a such a short amount of time.
