Have oil on top of engine

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My daughter came home saying the jeep was
making strange noise and hard to steer I thought
maybe the belt went but got to car and smelled oil
the top of engine has oil on it it's dark so I couldn't
see much and I'm not very mechanical any
thoughts?

Yes, get a flashlight or update your post in the morning when you can see.

From your description it sounds like the power steering went. There is a high-pressure hydraulic hose that come from the pump itself to your steering rack, if that develops a leak it can spray power steering fluid anywhere, if it goes on the exhaust manifold you'll smell burning oil.
