I am looking at a 2014 2.5L Outback to pull my 1600 lb. camper. My 2007 Forester struggles to pull it. Will the 2014 Outback be a significant improvement over the '07 Forester?

JVTP - Actually, I have a 2010 Subaru Outback Limited with the CVT transmission. The H4, 2.5L engine can tow 2,700 pounds, not 3,000. The H6, Subaru Outback with the 3.6 litre Six can tow an additional 300 pounds for a total of 3,000 pounds. Seems hard to believe that the Six only has the extra pulling power of 300 pounds, but, it's True. So, you will have no problem towing the 1,600 pound camper. Now, in certain states, like California, you're going to need trailer brakes on the trailer to coordinate with the car. Check your local area guidelines. I would say anything over 1,500 pounds would be desirable, but, it's the law in California. My teardrop trailer weighs less than 1,000 pounds fully loaded, so, I don't need any trailer brakes. Here's a picture of my rig.
