2014 Kia Optima turns off and on while driving...HELP!

A few weeks ago, my Optima (77,000 miles, about 35,000 on the replaced
engine) started turning off and on while I am driving.  It happens
intermittently.  I can go days and it will not do it and then one day, I'm driving
along and it will turn off for a few seconds and turn right back on.  I lose all
control of steering and breaking, radio and dashboard go off as well.  It is
really scary.  All recalls are up to date. Took it to KIA dealership and they
were not helpful and basically said they drove it 20 miles and couldn't
replicate it and no codes came back.  Our personal mechanic (who hasn't
looked at the car yet) says it sounds like the ignition switch.  I am so
frustrated and am freaking out that this car is only 7 years old and I'm
terrified to drive it.  I don't want to get on a wild goose chase that's going to
cost me an arm and leg to go through, trying to figure this out.  HELP!

I would have to agree with your mechanic friend that it could be the ignition switch, or even the wiring to it. I would also suggest checking out the ground wire to the battery as well as the battery connections

check the connection on your battery ( especially for corrosion since that indicates looseness) then check ground on battery, it could be loose as well. I was having the same issue with my car 3 weeks ago BUT, it didn't want to maintain speed after letting off of throttle. After you check your grounds, there are so many possibilities with this, it's best to get it diagnosed.
