Differential(s) problems

Asked by Tom007 Sep 21, 2008 at 05:23 AM about the 1999 Jeep Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a second hand 1999 Jeep.

On a long trip 2000Km at 110-120 kph I blew both diffs.

This is not the circa 1940 Jeep that I grew up with

i'm not up on my metric conversions but i think thats only like 80 MPH....but anyways, why were u in 4WD? and what exactly makes you think you blew your front and rear differentials?...third members usually don't just blow up at cruising speeds? especially simultaniously

Definitely need to know more...what do you mean blew both diffs? And if it was in 4wd, WTF were you thinking?

What drive train do u have , its either comandtrac or selectrack only one of which can be run @ highway speeds in 4hi mode otherwise u will bind up the train in a very short time , id say ur diffs are ok & ur transfer has eaten itself lol ;-)
