A couple of weeks ago, I accidentally shifted into reverse while moving forward at about 40 mph. Now it doesn't want to back up when I shift it into reverse. Is it the transmission?

Question type: General

It's a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  When I realized that I'd accidentally shifted it into reverse (big grinding sound), I shifted it into neutral, then back into drive.  I was trying to shift it into 2 wheel drive from 4 wheel drive, but shifted gears instead...

I would have to advise you to have it checked out by a certified trans tech. Sounds like you may have some internal damage to trans.
