should be 3 push buttons on dash says 2high 4 high 4 low,or you have a shifter to left of trans shifter if so put in nutral push shifter down will go to 2 wheel drive,is not good to drive in full time 4 wheel drive.you want 2high until in snow or ice.

Depends if you have Select-Trac or Command-Trac/Quadra-Trac. It's OK to drive in full-time 4WD with one, but not the other, due to the way the setup is done. Have a Jeep dealer decode your VIN, they can tell you which one your vehicle was equipped with. If you can't keep it in full-time, there is a problem with the 4WD switch that might need to be remedied. Pulling up on the lever and holding in the full-time position should cause full-time to engage with a short drive (10-15 feet).

Yea if your shift gate for 4 wheel drive says full time, part time, and low range you can leave it engaged. Only leave it in full time when on the road though. If you leave it in part time you can do serious damage. If it is popping out of any of the selections have someone check the rods connecting the lever to the transfer case.
