97 jeep grand cherokee shutting off

Asked by madguy29 Oct 28, 2008 at 08:22 AM about the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

unfortunatley this has only happened to my wife and the vehicle has been towed.  It keeps cutting off in the middle of her driving.  I do know it has been hit in the right front before.  The dealer thinks it is the transmission and wants to charge me 1500 to fix it.  Could it be the tranny? What else may it be so i dont get screwed.  TY

Does it just die after running for a while? It could be in the ignition or the fuel pump. When they get hot after running they may no longer function due to the impedance of the part increasing. Is there a jerk/shudder or something when it goes or just "lights out"?
