77 dodge w200 no spark

Asked by Alex Dec 12, 2018 at 03:35 PM about the 1977 Dodge Power Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Getting no spark from the distributor on my 1977
w200. Replaced the ballast resistor, ignition coil,
ignition key, ignition switch, control module, and
neutral safety switch. None worked.

The key does not engage the starter either, so
we've been jumping it from the starter relay, which I
also replaced as of today. The lights work with the
key set to run, the coil is getting power to both
ends, and the resistor is getting power to both
ends.

Completely out of ideas her, as I feel like everything
has been replaced. The ignition switch was done
by the previous owner, the rest by me.

Make sure the distributor shaft turns when the engine is turning over.!

Did you replace the cap, rotor and plug wires?

Not yet, cap looked good. Underneath was very clean. Not getting spark from the coil to the distributor.

The coil does not spark all the time. It only sparks when it is triggered. If this were my truck I might just replace the whole ignition system with a new distributor. Here is a how to guide for modifications to your system. https://www.allpar.com/fix/electronic-ignition.html
