Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a '96 Cherokee and for some reason my selector switch that decides if the heat goes to the floor, dash, etc. has stopped working. I can move it to any position and it's stuck on defrost. If I climb under the dash I can manually move the motors but if I let go they snap back into position defrost. I know they are vacuum operated but I don't know where to look either for a broken or fallen off line. Anybody have a good idea? Please don't say tear apart the dash *prays*!!! Thanks for any help.

Vac hose comes out thru the fire wall near the heater core connections and goes to the brake booster connection. Look for it cracked, broken or disconnected. Let me know if you need more info
