if all else fails I suppose u could put it up on a hoist or before u start checking computers or bulb problems do a wheel spin on gravel to see if the front wheels are driving.

I would say that or have a shop lift it for you for free as part of a free vehicle inspection. Most will be happy to do it hoping youll come back for the work they recommend. And with the transmission in neutral or drive whichever works better, and spin the back wheels one by and see if any of the fronts spin too. You can usually feel when 4WD is engaged because when making a slow, tight turn, the wheel will feel harder to turn and the tires will want to squirm and chirp more.
There are 2 settings for 4wd high, part time will lock the transfer case and full time will allow the transfer case to"slip". If I was going to check I would just go out on a slippery surface (like a dirt road or if there's any ice or snow around) pop in into part time 4wd and pin it then compare it to doing the same thing in 2wd. If it's on gravel or fresh snow you should be able to see the pattern of 2 vs 4 wheel drive.
