how do i reset "distance to empty feature"

It should reset automatically whenever you add fuel. Has your fuel gauge been acting up?

No. the fuel gauge has not been acting up. but the last time i added fuel the key was not turned all the way off. Could this system not get a proper reading because of this?

Does the system read anything, or not the correct distance? U could undo the battery for 20 to 30 minutes to reset the computer

It will reset itself once the fuel tank level changes. If the fuel level is not working, that will throw off that feature and will need to calibrate the tank sending unit.
