How do i open the gas tank door?

It's in the door armrest in previous model years, another model of Hyundai has it along the floor near the seat controls.

It should be a small button someplace accessible to the driver, like on the door or dash board panel to the left or right of the steering column or even somewhere along the center console. It will have a picture of a Gas Pump on it just like the one locate near the fuel gauge. Make sure the ignition is on when you press the button because it is electric and have been known to have electrical problems. If you still can't find it, open the rear hatch, look on the plastic panel behind the rear seats, towards the hatch opening, on the same side where the fuel door is located. You should see a removable insert that pops out and there will be a manually operated cable inside that you just pull. The pop out insert may be tight and you may need a flat blade screw driver to pry the insert out.

It was in the dumbest place ever!! on the drivers door on the bottom part of the armrest under the window controls! Why?!?

Ummmm, because it is NOT an American car and the Asian cars have really stupid stuff maybe?

That is as STUPID as what Ford did in the early 80's with the lock buttons and horns! The lock was built in & slightly under the armrest by the loop you used to open and close the door & your finger tips would hit it getting out of the car. Many locked out drivers with their keys in the ignition. Then the horn was activated by depressing a stalk switch just like the blinker on the right side of the steering column in towards the center of the column !

you need to unlock all 4 doors to release a latch that locks the fuel door

Nothing stupid about it once you know where it is. Also, it has nothing to do with locked doors. You can open it with all the doors locked.

Put your arm on the drivers seat armrest with fingers pointing down-- follow your fingers -- small latch to push on the bottom of that armrest-- not stupid once you know where it is. Good luck

Thanks, Christina. Running wires though a hinged door is not the smartest thing to do, IMHO. fatigue from the flexing joint will almost certainly cause failure.

2018 Elantra does not have a button inside the car, just push lightly on the gas door and it pops open.

The answer was simple for our rental - push on the gas tank door.

I got rid of the Hyundai and bought a Subaru. I will never own anything else. It's so much further advanced than anything else out there. Simply wonderful and a joy to own and drive. Well worth your while to look into. By itself, the symmetrical all wheel drive is worth the change... and there's so much more.
