there should be a flex coupler. undo this flex coupler and fix the pieces. replace this coupler if a tighter steering is required. I'm also in Clearlake, the poverty street free armpit of the universe. and no have nothing to spare.

Who told you it's a "spec. Tool"? The shop mechanic? Get under the column and look at it. It's probably a torx bit. Get the tool and tighten it up. It's a Jeep, not the moon rover. It uses regular tools.

Check in at www.jeepforum.com - other owners might know what it takes to tighten it up.

i agree with jeepdoctor, after owning 9 of these, the tilt comes loose on a lot of them, just get it fixed because if you keep driving it that way, the mounts will get wobbled out and sometimes the bolts break off if left unattended, then you are screwed. The jeep has the exact same steering column as 70-80 gm cars, you should notice your keys are identical to gm keys. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/ccrp_0908_gm_steering_column_repair/viewall.html
