Is the starter solenoid getting juice when you try to start it ? Could be the switch .
Or the neutral safety switch. Try starting it in neutral. Also try to start it after moving the shifter through all the selections quickly a few times. Hope that helps! Jim
These old Chevys are know to have the ignition switch fall apart or even just come loose. If it has a tilt steering wheel then make sure it is solid and doesn’t move around when locked into position as that will throw off the pivot cam inside the steering column.
