2015 Honda Fit hatch won't open

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
The hatch on my 2015 Honda Fit won't open. Note that this year does not have a small access panel to reach the mechanism as discussed on previous years. The solenoid or motor operates when I attempt to open and the latch apparently opens partially as the dash indicator shows it to be open. I must press down on the hatch and hear a small click to extinguish the indicator light. Any suggestions?

I have a 2018 Honda fit that is 3 months old and less than 3000 miles on it and I have the same issue. Hatch won't open and there no longer is a way to get to the mechanism from the back to release the latch. The people at honda have no idea how to approach the fix issue. 5 weeks without access to my trunk.
I opened the stuck hatch on my 2015 Fit! See the photos. The main metal latch piece had a black plastic sheath molded around it, probably to prevent rattles. It was chewed up, preventing it from retracting properly. Of course, this is not visible with the hatch closed. Start by attempting to open the hatch normally, pressing the button above the license plate. (You should hear the solenoid click.) Then, from inside the car, I opened the hatch by sliding a skinny metal probe the right to force the latch to retract. It took a lot of jiggling and jamming to free it. Once open, the problem was pretty obvious. Once open, use the shaft of a screwdriver to push up on the mechanism to trip it to the closed position. Then use a knife to cut the mangled black plastic away. Operate the mechanism open and closed several times to be sure it moves freely. If you have a cooperative dealer, I suggest that you look at the latch on a properly operating Fit. This will help to plan your jiggling and jamming to open it. P1: Shows the latch from rear with hatch open. Pencil points to the offending latch part that previously had chewed up black plastic. P2: Shows the latch in closed position. This exposes the offending area of the latch to allow you to clean out the chewed up plastic. Press the latch switch to open the latch before closing the hatch. P3: Shows the latch from the inside of the car. Note the little portal on the left with the removable plug. This allows you to open the latch if the switch or solenoid fails (no help in this situation). P4: Shows the rear of the latch (in the closed position) with the hatch open. This gives you an idea of where you need to poke around to free a stuck latch. Hope all this helps someone!
Is it just me or is anyone else not able to see the 2nd attachment. It's the most important one for me as this is the only forum that I have found the same yr model (lacking access panel that early gens have).
I've attached P2 again. Not sure why it disappeared.
