Computer Upgrade issuee?
Asked by Audra Nov 02, 2020 at 05:31 PM about the 2015 Hyundai Sonata
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have bought a 2015 Sonata last year it has 70,000. While driving on the
freeway the car lost acceleration. The engine was still running, a/c working, etc.
but no acceleration and the check engine light was FLASHING. I was told all I
need is a computer upgrade. Can I trust that?

If the dealership told you that, then likely that is what it needs. If an independent shop told you that then I might be skeptical.
A flashing check engine light or service engine soon light is warning you that the engine is misfiring and damaging the catalytic converter! Since you lost power when this was going on I'd suspect you need a tune up, not a computer update! Hope that helps! Jim

My check engine light came on and was flashing while the car completely lost power on my 2015 Hyundai Sonata with 139k miles on it. This happened a week ago. I immediately towed it to the dealer and there is a class action lawsuit currently on the engine failing and now Hyundai sonatas 2015-2018 models have lifetime warranty on engine because of this. Since I turned off my car when the light came on and towed it to the dealer, they were able to see the light on at the dealership and said my bearings failed in the engine and they just REPLACED MY ENGINE. Literally just picked up the car yesterday with a brand new engine. Sounds like you have the same issue and Hyundai should replace engine with a new one at no cost to you. Hope that helps

Also you must be the original owner tho for them to have that engine warranty
