Software Update
Asked by Guru1LN1T Sep 07, 2019 at 12:12 PM about the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I started my Jeep Grand Cherokee the other day and got a notice on the screen
that said Software Update required. I have tried numerous times to "schedule"
the update and it never updates. Not only cannot I not get rid of that screen but
now I cannot use my radio, or any other app on the car.

Hold down the two dial buttons (volume and browse/enter) for ten seconds. This will reset the system.
I'm having the exact same problem on my '15 Durango. Did you ever figure out how to fix? Resetting the system didn't work for me.
I started my car the other day, without doing anything (this was just after I posted my question) and everything was back to normal. I have no idea what that was all about! Good Luck!

I am experiencing the exact same issue with my 2016 Jeep Cherokee. Does anyone have a fix?
I tried the volume and browser hold, nothing. This is very frustrating.
Took the battery cable off for a minute. Like new.
the exact same thing is happening to me right now its so frustrating! how do i fix it?
Same issue here. Nobody has a fix to this?
Same frustrating problem on my 2015 Jeep. Tried several times to update & nothing. I really need help
Same thing is happening to my 2015 grand Cherokee. I tried the reset and disconnected the battery but neither has worked.
Same thing happening to my 2015 grand Cherokee. Tried soft and hard factory reset. No luck
I'm in the process of working with one of their customer services reps getting my 2015 Trail Hawk updated.....we made multiple attempts to no avail....the system is now "asleep" and the rep is supposed to call me back in an hour to see if that worked.....this is VERY frustrating.....keep you posted!
UPDATE: Well....it did not work.....now they've scheduled an appt. for me at the dealership! Ya know.....you'd think they would have tested this update prior to releasing to the masses!! We should be compensated for lost time we can never get back! Nuf said!!
so i had the same uconnect update that i couldn't avoid. i tried to schedule the update so many times with no luck. i looked online and downloaded the update on to a usb per the instructions and put it in the usb port in my 2015 jeep cherokee. the update got to 72% and kept failing. i tried over 20 times. i took it to the dealer who told me i need a whole new radio system and it going to cost me almost $1,000. i am in shock! i didn't ask for this update and everything was totally fine before it popped up!
Support had me schedule an appointment with my dealership after multiple attempts to get it to work. The service guy said they were able to fix it on one Jeep by removing power to the radio, and he hasn't been given any other instructions on how to fix it, so he's hoping it works for everyone else because he's gotten a bunch of calls recently.
This is bs man. I called the Uconnect number about this issue. This is an on going problem that’s happening right now with most of these Chrysler cars. The agent on the phone preformed the Steps on how to restart the screen and then you must exit the car and not touch it for an hour. An hour goes by and same message is on my radio. They told me to make an appointment with a dealer. I then make a phone call to my dealer on the issue and they said it will be a $115 to just run the diagnostics to see what the problem is going on. So basically if the diagnostics comes back to being your radio dead when it’s an issue from Chrysler on this. I am just frustrated on this where I’m going to have to pay a lot of money to just fix the radio. If anyone has any luck trying something to get this fixed please update us. I also did some research online and was wondering if anyone pulled the fuse out? https://kb.fcawitech.com/article/tsb-08-089- 19-ra3-and-ra4-8-4-flash-over-the-air-fota- update-radio-update-message-949.html
I’m definitely going to try the power to the radio, and definitely the fuse too. My dealership said the radio is on backorder and they won’t give me an ETA until I purchase it. I’m going to try everything first before I just go buy a new radio. This doesn’t seem right to me
Don't order new radios. Call Chrysler headquarters the radios aren't broken. My girlfriend just talked to them the update came with a bug and they just fixed it. No one at the dealership was given instructions to fix it yet. But uconnect called my girlfriend and said one of their technicians will call the dealership and explain to them how to fix it. They also said they will reimburse my girlfriend the money for the diagnostic check. I'll let everyone know how this goes tomorrow but I wouldn't waste money on a new radio.
Complete BS, I've tried dozens of times, went through the procedure with a rep on the phone, I'm on hold with them now. Guru18NT3, I hope you are right. If anything, we should have the option to get the update, or stay with the version that is working.
From the Rep: (1) Turn key on (2) Throughout this process do not hit the X in the top right corner (3) Schedule…. will pop up (4) Set schedule at least 2 minutes ahead (5) Press set time (6) Hit OK (7) Make sure the vehicle is in Park (8) Wait 1 full minute past the time you set for the update (9) Press and hold the two knobs under the screen at the same time for 5 seconds (10) Release the knobs and the screen will go black (11) Wait until the screen comes back on (12) The Schedule….will come back up (13) Turn ignition off (14) Open the vehicle door (15) Get out of the vehicle (16) Close the vehicle door (17) Lock the door (18) Keep the key at least 25' from the vehicle (19) Wait 1 hour (20 After the 1 hour has passed, turn the ignition on
@Lgood24. Most of us gave that a try and doesn’t do anything. After coming back in an hour to check on the car to see if the update message is gone. It’s an issue from the software where it just keeps constantly showing that message. If any of the dealers tell you that you need a brand new radio don’t believe them. One of the uconnect agents I talked to said it’s just a software issue the radio and everything else works fine. That’s why most of these dealers don’t know about the issue yet so they assume that the radio needs to be changed. As of right now I have tried everything to see if the issue will go away but no luck.
Update: My girlfriend brought it to a Dodge Dealership and they deleted the update now the radio is fixed.
@Guru18NT3, do you know how long they took to remove it?
Does anyone know if a hard factory radio reset will fix this problem?
Sat in running car while in park. Did the hold down the volume and tune buttons simultaneously, 2 times. Working now. Good luck. Ymmv. 2017 GC TH
Got mine up and running last night, here are the instructions they sent me on Facebook Messenger, it did not work the first time, but started working halfway through the second time, after step #6 1. Choose 'Schedule Update' 2. Set time 2 minutes ahead of current time (for example, if it is currently 8:43 AM, set the time for 8:45 AM) 3. Once the time is chosen, select 'Set Time' 4. Select 'OK'. Do NOT press the X. 5. Wait for 3 minutes to allow the set time to pass (for example, if the time was set for 8:45 AM, wait until at least 8:48 AM) 6. Perform two button reset (Simultaneously press and hold the circular Browse/Enter & Power/Mute buttons) 7. Wait for 'Schedule Update' pop up to be shown again, but do NOT Set Time 8. Perform a complete sleep cycle a. Ignition off b. open door c. close door d. lock the door e. Wait for 10 minutes 9. Turn the Ignition On, and the pop ups should cease.
Lgood24's instructions just worked for me
Worked for me as well...thanks for sharing
damn! I guess because I went online on how to do the update and it told me to use the USB that's what screwed me. I wish I would have came on sooner and got advice. Because I inserted the USB i just have a white screen that keeps saying insert USB. I think the update fried my system. Total BS.
I tried the USB update but the radio said that the update on the USB drive was older than what was already being used, so it refused to do anything. Then I noticed that the downloaded software was version 17.43.01 and my radio was 18.11.07. I took my JCG in to the dealer yesterday and they pulled it out and reset it to get rid of the software update window and allow the radio to work again. They claim that it then updated the sofware but the version is still the same. What version is it supposed to show before and after the software updates? The dealer didn't charge me for the work.
Lgood24's advice worked. Try that everyone.
Lgood24: just did your reboot instructions and it worked the first time! Thank you so much!!
Lgood24's inst. Worked for me too with one slight change. I followed directions exactly, but when I held down the two bottons , the screen went black and the update screen never popped back up. So I just kept holding them down for about 30 seconds then let go and turned off the ignition and all the rest. When I turned it back on, walla got my radio back! Thanks to lgood24 or I never would have figured this out. Should have known better to never rush to update being a windows pc owner. Always wait a couple months before taking the plunge. Give me a chance to get the kinks out first. BTW mine is a 2017 Renegade Desert hawk Model. And if that update screen should pop up again in the following days, I WILL IGNORE IT. At least for the next couple of months. Hope this helps someone n than again lgood24!
Really hoping the instructions on here work, my charger just started doing the same thing out of nowhere and I was going out of my mind trying to figure out how to fix it. Trying it this afternoon.. I hate this Uconnect crap Thanks for posting how to fix it
Ur welcome, I know how u feel, it sucks big time! Just remember, this is a software problem not hardware. U DO NOT NEED A NEW RADIO!!! I see people on here going to the dealer and being told that, DUH, of course their going to tell u that. They don't know how to fix it, n even if they did, their business is to make money. Everyone's radio can be fixed by the owner. Maybe it might be a little different combo of moves, but that's all it is, keep trying till you find the one that works. Don't disconnect the battery or pull the fuse, it's a combo of moves that will do it. Just try all the ones listed above, n if u still can't get it working, don't give up, search the Web for more. Not all radios r created equal. I called u connect after I fixed it, n they told me the one above about leaving the car for an hour. When I said that didn't work but the one on leaving it for only 10 minutes did, they said oh. No help whatsoever. Then I asked what the new version number is so I could check, they said well it shows here that ur radio was udated, the version is 17.43.01. How that happened i ll never know, radio was stuck on the update screen, I never saw it update. Oh well, just keep trying everyone, you'll get it sooner or later. Just don't fall for the "you need a new radio bit"!!!!!!! Ciao for now
OK people just to give a detailed list of what to try. I have push button start and electric everything on my car, some of you may not. I think the trick here is not to use any electronics while performing the following moves. Get in ur drivers seat. And make sure ur in park n the emergency brake is on. Now turn ur ignition to the on position, either turn ur key or push ur button. Be sure not to touch anything else. If ur radio is off, turn it on. You will see the infamous update screen saying to schedule. Push set schedual. Next you see the time it is. Set the minutes to 2 minutes ahead from now. Then push set schedule. Take note of the time because at 3 minutes past the time u set is when u simoultainiously push in and hold in the 2 round power n browse buttons until one of two things happen. Either the update screen will pop back up at which time u let go and turn off the ignition, or ur screen will go black and stay blacked out. In that case just keep holding in the knob for about 30 seconds then let go and turn off the ignition. Now open ur drivers side door for 2 seconds and. Close it again. Now lock it. Do not use ur electric door lock button if you have one. Or ur key fob if you have one. Use ur finger and manual push the lock button. Now sit there and wait for 10 minutes to pass, then turn ur ignition back on. Don't start the car, just to the on position. If your radio comes on ur good, if not you may have to push the power button to turn it on. If it goes on, try playing with it, change channels, adjust volume, see that it's working OK n ur good to go. Turn off the radio, turn off ur ignition, and get the heck outta dodge! LOL. Hope this works for you, if not, just try it again. Still no cigar? Then try another combo listed above and elsewhere on other forums until u find the one that works for you.
@Lgood24 is your engine running when you preformed these steps? Or if anyone knows please let me know. Thank you
No no no, turn the ignition to on but don't start the car. Both times, in the beginning of the procedure, and at the end. You never start the engine, just turn to on (acc). Only. You just need the power to perform the above procedure. And do not touch any other electrical thing during. Follow the above procedure to the T. Good luck
Same problem occurred yesterday with my 2015 Grand Cherokee. Called the dealership and was told it would require a manual update (that only they can do) and would run about $150. They said they are seeing a lot of vehicles with this problem. Took my Jeep in this morning and am waiting on their call. Just researched this problem on the internet and found the CarGurus link.
Wow wished you hadn't done that. You could have saved you self that 150.00 and did it yourself, they are robbing you. They don't know squat about what's going on cause it just happened with this last update. They are going to call u connect and they will tell them one of the procedures listed here and charge you when you could have done it yourself!
@Guru16K1T, I think that’s where mine didn’t work. I had it on the (acc) then preformed everything then towards the end after the screen restarted when holding the two resets. I turned it to off > stepped out the car> locked it with the remote and waited 10 mins. after 10mins went by I started the car (the engine was running) so that’s where it didn’t preform the restart correct?
Correct read my detailed procedure above and try again. Update, mine is working fine, no new pop up update screen. So it does work. Stay away from the dealers unless you like throwing ur money away! Updated version is the same, 17.43.01 take ur time n follow procedure to a T. I cannot stress that enough. Good news is you can try as many times as it takes. PATIENCE PEOPLE!!!!!
@Guru16K1T So I gave it a try still no luck on removing it
Try again, maybe you missed something, if not read above and try a different procedure. Worse comes to worse give u connect a call and see if they have some other procedure. One of them has to work. Just don't give up and go to the dealers and let them do it. They will call u connect and get the correct procedure for your specific radio and charge you a fortune. Hang in there and keep trying. Try some other forums too, maybe someone has come up with another combo to try. Trying is free remember that .
@ Guru16K1T it’s just frustrating. I did it 4-5 times today. It’s sucks not able to use the screen or listen to music when I have long commute to work and school. Still no luck as of right now.
Searching round the Web n found other procedures to try. One says to turn ignition to on position, then hold the VR (talking head) and PHONE (green phone) buttons on the steering wheel down simultaneously for 30 seconds, release, turn off ignition and open door for 30 seconds more. Another says to try disconnecting Negative Battery Cable, wait 10 minutes and reconnect. Yet Another says Put ignition to on, then hold temperature up button and temperature down button down simultaneously for 8 seconds. An engineering menu should appear they say. And the last menu item on the 1st page is a reset radio option. This will reboot the system. Another person says to try pressing and holding down the mute and source buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. Still another thing to try is to pull the radio fuse, located in the front corner 3rd closest fuse, I think it's #.11, wait 3 minutes and put it back in. Yet another post says to hold down simultaneously 3 buttons, Temperature Up, Temperature Down and the Front Defrost for 10 to 15 until a menu pops up to reset radio. LASTELY you can call U CONNECT 1- 877-855-8400 and rest assured you will either get lucky and get someone who will give you a procedure that works, or you will get some idiot who will tell you to take it to the dealers and have them reset it for you. And of course the dealer if your lucky, will fix it for free, or will tell you your radio is fried (when it's not) and try and sell you a new one. PLEASE DON' T fall for it. I repeat, it's a software problem, NOT hardware! The radio only needs to be rebooted. Each radio depending on year, screen size, etc. Has its own reset procedure. It's just a matter of finding the one that works for your specific radio. These procedures ive listed say it works on 2013 - 2019 Vehicles, so Good Luck with that. Thank God for the Internet!
@Guru16K1T...thank you, it worked, radio is back on I was afraid it wouldn’t because I accidentally locked the door with the outside button in the handle because my model doesn’t have a manual push button. Alas, it worked anyway!

@monty I used @lgood24 instructions and left engine running during the 3 min step at the beginning. I never had to do the sleep cycle part, as mine starting working after the two but reset! THANK YOU!! About to go on a 6- hour road trip and I was NOT happy about this bs.
Oh gr8, so happy for you, see you just had to find the right combo . Save the procedure for future reference. You never know with this darn u connect system when you might have to do it again. Probably after the next update. Take care n happy motoring!
My schedule update screen has gone away, but I still have no sound. It appears as though the volume buttons are working again (before it didn't show an increase or decrease when adjusting volume).
I have tried everything above, nothing has worked for 3 days. Getting desperate as I have a road trip scheduled in 3 days.
Have you tried with engine running instead of just ignition turned to on (acc) ? Try again, take ur time and keep trying, step by step, make sure car is in park and emergency brake is on. Lock door manualy, no electric lock button or key fob, by hand. Try with car ignition turned to just on also, don't start the engine, try all different ways, one of them has to work. If you get it working, please post which procedure worked for you.
I used the first “lgood24” procedure and it worked first time. I did not start vehicle, left it in ACC. Did not set parking brake. Locked door on exit with key fob remote. I did remove key fob more than 25’ feet from vehicle during the 10 minute wait. Radio works, etc., key fob battery weak notice is gone.
@MinshewMagic What excalty did you do to make it work? So you had the engine running and put the time 2 mins head from what clock shows on car? Then wait 3 mins > pressed both buttons for restart> and that fixed your issue? I don’t know what else to do for mine been doing many different update ways given to me. I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee altitude. Is anyone having any issues on 2015 models? No luck for me yet.
MinshewMagic answered 5 years ago
Yes, @monty that is exactly what I did for my 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited. After I did the button reset, my screen went blank and then when it popped back up the message was gone! Original poster said that the first time he went through the entire instructions (I pasted below so you don't have to search again) and it didn't work, but the second time he did it, it worked after step 6 (which is the button reset when my started working) Good luck! INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Choose 'Schedule Update' 2. Set time 2 minutes ahead of current time (for example, if it is currently 8:43 AM, set the time for 8:45 AM) 3. Once the time is chosen, select 'Set Time' (make sure AM/PM is changed--mine kept defaulting to opposite one) 4. Ignition off b. open door c. close door d. lock the door. Wait for 10 minutes 9. Turn the Ignition On, and the pop ups should cease.

Any suggestions on what to do if the system already tried to update and the message on the screen reads: "There was an problem (yes, they used "an") while starting the head unit. If this error persists after an ignition cycle please see your dealer." 2014 Grand Cherokee - everything was fine until this fabulous update.
@ MinshewMagic @ Guru16K1T I got the issue fixed! I was testing different methods to see what’s going on. Apparently you don’t need to set the PM/AM. For example if your car shows 8:43 pm.. and then you have to set it two mins ahead at 8:45. I just left the time at 8:45 without touching the pm/am. It was already on default am. For my 2015 GC attitude I did the restart while the engine is running basically the same as what @ MinshewMagic mentioned on top. If anyone having issues try not touching the am/pm when setting the time 2 mins head. I hope this helps anyone who is still having issues with this.
Try the rebooting procedures above, one of them should work and get rid of the warning. You don't need to go to the dealer. Just keep trying until you get it. There are lots of procedures listed, try them all if you have to. It's better then paying the dealer to do it for you. You can see everyone tried and failed but kept trying and eventually fix their radios. Your turn.
Does anyone know what the update actually does?
I got this update issue yesterday and ended up disconnecting the negative terminal from my battery for one minute and put it back on. Update thing came on again but only once. Then pushed down the hot and cold adjusters and held them for a few seconds until the engineering menu pops up. Then find reset radio. After I did that my music started working again and hasn’t popped up.
i did the steps that @minshewmagic did and it worked first try! did it and sat outside for about 15 min and it worked on the first try!!!
Thanks everyone. Had this issue yesterday and did one last update last night before going into the house to research. Found this thread and decided to try the fix this morning. Went out to begin, put car in acc and radio works fine no pop ups. My guess is last update fixed it?
2015 JGC - got in the car two days ago, and UConnect seems bricked; nothing works, with the same stupid notification that you all have. Frankly, since I OWN the vehicle, and did not request the OTA update, not was I notified or given opportunity to choose whether I wanted it - the onus, legally, is FCA at their expense. This will undoubtedly turn into yet another class-action suit. Does anyone know of, or have a link to a Service Bulletin on this - for reference? So I called the FCA Customer Service number (hold times are exceeding 20 minutes), and they (I confirmed it is a 3rd party contractor to FCA - not FCA), acknowledged that this is chronic problem, and that customers are royally angry. So after hearing the noise about resetting, having to wait, and maybe having to go to the dealer, I stated that I wasn't going to touch it, and that I wanted FCA to arrange to either have a technician come to my work and conduct the reset, OR that they send a tow vehicle, and take it to get it fixed. If I touch it, and it somehow gets worse - then it's on me, an I AM NOT GOING TO PAY FOR THIS with money, or in my time. I did not create the problem in the first place. I called the nearest dealer (a larger group of incompetent idiots you will rarely find), unsurprisingly, they claim to have no awareness of the issue - which I DOUBT. Believe it or not - the people at FCA customer service agreed to arrange for the vehicle to be picked up. Whether this will actually happens or not is TBD. I will will report back with the outcome. It's their fault, and if they aren't going to compensate me for my time and trouble of their breaking my vehicle, then they can come to me to deal with it.
Well never mind my response. Got popup when I started her up this morning so I'll try the fix monday when I'm off
Quick update: FCA is claiming there's no TSB on this. I warned Customer Service that if they are misleading on this topic, there will be legal consequences. Instead - and for the benefit of anyone whose are dealers' are poorly operated as mine are - there is what FCA calls a "Star Case" code on this issue: S1908000157. FCA Customer Service states that the dealer should be able identify this code, and and the issue should be addressed at no cost. I am still insistent that they come to me to fix the problem - again, I'll let folks know where this goes. I can only propose to others that see this, to insist on the same. Either that, or that you be compensated for your time financially (in money - not dealer discounts/services) - inclusive of hours you are without the vehicle - and your cost to get there and return.
I just took the advice from a previous response 1. Went out to my Jeep turned it on pressed the volume and the tuner and held them down simultaneously for about 5 seconds but the message was still there. Then I did it again and it continued to show the message. However I then turned off the vehicle went I. The house came back out restarted the Jeep and the radio screen was back to normal. I hope this is the end of it. Thank u for the help
I just updated today (October 11, 2019), i followed instructions from download and put the 2 files on my flashdrive (swdl.iso & swdl.upd), i put in usb port while vehicle running, turned of ignition while in park and left for about 10 minutes, when i came back, radio was on i just had to wait 2 minutes in car while running to verify update...i have no idea what update was for though.
Thank you Guru16KIT. I just got that update message yesterday and it would not go away. I followed your instructions and I have my radio back. I hope the fix is permenant.
@Lgood24 thanks for sharing the info. My car has been having this issue for a week now. I followed the instructions you shared this morning, and now it's back to normal. I was prepared to have to do it more than once, but I didn't need to. Thanks!
Thank goodness for this thread. I was able to fix the system update problem using the steps mentioned. I had to do it 2 times and it working fine now. I have a 2015 Cherokee Trailhawk.
I finally did the following and it worked on the first try! When I restarted the car I heard my radio for the first time in 2 weeks. I could rant and rave, but obviously all of you are going through the same. Try this and good luck- 1. Ignition off b. open door c. close door d. lock the door. Wait for 10 minutes 9. Turn the Ignition On, and the pop ups should cease.
I should mention I have a 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited
2015 JGC Limited to fix the update thing I just unhooked the positive wire at the fuse box left side of the engine. Left it unhooked for 10 seconds. Fixed.
Hello, I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Software warning popped this weekend. Yesterday, the home UConnect screen was delayed in starting, was back but still had radio. It came in after about two blocks driving. This morning the same, tonight it start at the Jeep screen, went black. Was off the entire drive home, but the radio has sound. Anyone else?
I called my dealership this morning, they are aware of the issue but told me there would be a charge to fix it. I told them there was no way I was going to pay to fix a problem they created by forcing an over air update to my radio. I called Chrysler customer care and opened a case. I now have a no charge appointment at my dealer tomorrow. I wonder how many people they are ripping off. Customer care did tell me they will reimburse any customer who was charged for the fix.
For those who are still having trouble: check that your clock's AM/PM is set correctly. In my 2015 Ram, the AM/PM is not displayed at the top, and the only way I could tell that mine was set wrong was to open the clock settings (touch the time at the top of the screen in Uconnect 4.0) and change it to 24-hour. The reason this has an effect is because if your clock is set to AM but it should be PM (or vice versa) then the procedure of scheduling the update for 2 minutes in the future will actually cause the update to be scheduled for 12 hours and 2 minutes in the future.
I was able to easily eliminate the update notice by taking a hammer and beating the screen until it went away. This will also eliminate future update notices and the need to pay money to update the navigation system. I was going to try this same method to get rid of the low tire pressure warning, but am concerned that the speedometer may disappear.
@ JGC1950 we are here to help. Can you tell me exactly what you did so I can see from the methods I did that might work for you? Also, @ShaneFI I had an issue with mine I tried everything from all the wonderful members on here that explained what steps they did. I ended up not setting the clock so not clicking am or pm at all and did the steps exactly how they were given from the original steps and it removed the software update issue on my Jeep gc.
I had the same problem. Seems like it got hung up in the middle of the update. I had no radio or backup camera for a couple days. Followed procedure from Uconnect and now the radio is fixed. However, the backup camera still is not working.
Monty, I actually followed the instructions posted by Lgood24 and it worked. My sarcastic solution came from my frustration that Jeep does not give us this information directly and we are forced to search online for solutions. I have a 2016 Grand Cherokee an recently updated the navigation system, which required a ridiculous process and having the Jeep idle for 45 minutes while it updated. So I have not actually smashed it with a hammer yet-that may come at a future update. Thanks for the response.
I have a 2015 Ram 1500 with the same issue...shocker. I tried the original update suggestion...key to ACC, set time, wait 3 mins, blah blah blah... Didn't work. Tried the Hot/Cold button reset, didn't work. Finally I tried the VR/Phone button reset, that worked!!! Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Stupid uConnect!
So, I saw this notification while browsing through my Ram uConnect screens(yes, I was bored). The message concludes with, "...Update Now", but there's no "Update" button or "Schedule Now" button. Given that my entire system on my 2017 Ram works flawlessly, can I just ignore the notification (on the Notification screen) and leave system as is? What functions are being updated?
@Gurul97MV, well that's interesting that there's no buttons to move it along. Like the rest of the people on here, I was trying to update mine, but it never worked. I was able to make the message go away. So to answer you with what was updated, I'm not sure. All I know is, everything is working, and my radio is no longer locked out!

ALL UPDATES SHOULD BE VOLUNTARY, I HAVE IGNORED UPDATES, LIKE SHIFT LEVEL & CRUISE CPNTROL PROBLEMS FOR OVER 3 YEARS, SINCE, I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS, BUT, THIS DAM UPDATE GAVE YOU NO CHOICE, & IT CAUSED MY BATTERY TO DRAIN, CAUSE IT COULD NOT FINISH THE UPDATE IN MY GARAGE...
uConnect really screwed the pooch on this one. Luckily I have not had a problem since I did the reset. Hopefully they can figure it out and give us all a fix, a real fix.
I received an email from uconnect today, they have issued a new update but its not over the air, you have to download and install it manually. After this last screw up I’m in no hurry to jump on that.
The sound is really off in my Renegade since the update. Anyone else having that issue?
I found out today that the update is supposed to address only the GPS rollover that takes place on Nov 3. That information wasn’t in the email I received and was never explained when they tried to force the OTA update. Anyone using an older iphone or ipad should be aware that the gps rollover could affect them too. There were stories on the news a few days ago about that but I never saw anything official from Apple.
I checked my car today and the clock is off by 1 hour when synced via gps. I manually set it and the nav is correctly calculating time to destination. Has anyone applied the new update and if so are you seeing any other issues?
I received the GPS update yesterday. And gave it a time a few hours in the future to do the update. Not sure if the update was successful but today I saw clock was off by two hours. When I attempted to test GPS I found it was almost non useable due to my position bring so far off from where I actually was.
That sounds like it was the over the air update, not the manual download from uconnect. Was it the OTA update?
Yes, The OTA. On a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. I called 919 452 3511 and was directed to following link for GPS issues: https://www.driveuconnect.com I entered my vin in check for updates and found I had no new updates. I then called above number and got some guy who spoke perfect English but knew nothing about the GPS nav issue and recommended getting my GPS calibrated and/or taking vehicle to dealer. I don't need to say anymore about that kind of help as it has been already discussed earlier in this post. This help desk person hung up on me. I than called back and got a knowledgeable lady who knew about the problem but could not resend the update to the Jeep. The only way to get the update is to get on a computer with a empty USB stick (not sure of size) call back on number above and they will walk me through getting the update over the phone. Probably similar to my NAV upgrade. -Don
Ok. The OTA one never did install on mine and I had to have the dealership clear it from memory so it would stop trying to install. So far my gps is ok other than the clock being off by 1 hour. When I looked up my VIN it shows the available version now as 18.x where a week ago it was still showing 17.x, the same version I have had installed for more than a year. I will download it and eventually install it. I was able to download and install the 17.x version a year ago and that was pretty painless.
This is a nightmare. My radio/screen has been down for over a month.
I tried downloading the usb update tonight prior to reading this feed and I’ve royally jacked my vehicle up. The update will show minimal progression then shut off and revert to either a “wait 2-5 minute” screen or “plug in usb connection” screen. I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee limited.
Not even going to try to get this update, until I hear good things. Glad mine is not forcing me into a decision.
I am downloading it tonight but won’t be installing it yet. Hopefully others will have luck installing from usb and keep us posted.
Shernandez01 answered 5 years ago
Agree with KHSteele - this IS a nightmare. My update is apparently stuck so far out in the stratosphere that NONE of the suggestions provided here worked for my Jeep. I contacted FCA, they promptly gave me the EXACT same instructions I found here. I sent them a picture of my display so they could see the (grammatically incorrect) message on the screen and the fact that I cannot even get to a screen that lets me do anything. They finally told me I need to take it to a dealership. My husband and I both work and our son has therapy several times a week - crazy, but I haven't exactly had an abundance of spare time to get something fixed that I DIDN'T break. And now, since I haven't been able to get it to the dealership, they very kindly closed my case. I'm only slightly annoyed now. I've already tried getting an update downloaded to a USB drive, but using my VIN - UConnect thinks my Jeep has already been updated. Would it be so difficult just to make the update available for download...let me put it on a drive ...and load it myself? I may not be formally trained in IT, but I'm pretty sure I can manage a USB drive. Not a happy camper.
GuruNWLD4 My head unit shows Software update 17.11.17 and vincheck says I have latest updates. This morning my Overland barely started. My fault for messing with GPS/Nav yesterday afternoon with engine off. After it started I noticed clock was off by 1 hr than a little bit later time was correct. Yesterday I used manual time to set clock. I selected NAV called up map and my location was still incorrect. I than drove it to one store and direction shown on map was off considerably. I really wasn't even sure if compass's direction map was telling me anything. In parking lot at first destination and engine running I pressed the large vol and tune buttons until screen went black and display rebooted than turned off car. I than started car and proceeded to next destination which was on my way home so I told the nav to give me directions home. After a few minutes with wrong directions I noticed it seemed to be getting closer to correct location of where jeep was versus map. Then it seemed to lock on and provide correct location on map. After leaving second stop it provided correct directions to my house. The only anomaly is that the clock is off by many hours and when I checked it in settings it had defaulted back to sync to GPS. I will leave it synced for now with time off since it's at least providing correct directions but of course I can't depend on time to destination info. The only thing I can figure is the Jeep took the update but it took the NAV some powered up driving time, to get it re-synced with satellites. Like a portable GPS that has not been used it awhile. -Don
Don, I don’t think you have the correct update. Did you use the over air update or download to a usb? The current version for my jeep is 18.43.01, that is the version that includes the gps rollover fix for the gps date change that took effect on Nov 3.
I have not downloaded to USB, I am not even sure the ota update happened. I do know it is messed up again as I drove the Jeep this evening and GPS is off. -Don
Don, the ota never worked for me. It never said it failed but every time I checked the system version it never changed. At this point I think you would be best off downloading the usb version. Go to the uconnect site and enter your vin and see if it shows that the 18.45 version is available for you.
I went on driveuconnect.com, entered my vin and got back "YOUR VEHICLE IS UP TO DATE". -Don
Don, did uconnect show the same version number that your car shows?
it didn't show any version number. It just said I was up to date. -Don
I have been on the phone with uconnect and Navtek and have been told because my vin shows vehicle is up to date there is nothing they can do like send a new update OTA or give me the software in a download to a USB Thumbdrive. My only option is a to go to the dealer. -Don
I made an appointment at the dealership hopefully things will improve. -Don
Don, thats crazy, be sure to push back if your dealer tries to charge you, this was chryslers/uconnects mistake.
Of course on my way to dealership for 12:30 appt the nav is spot on. Just like yesterday at lunch time.
They will start with disconnecting the battery which I thought about doing but didn't want to corrupt anything else. The service person says that Chrysler is aware of the previous OTA download . I think that would be the "backup camera" download was corrupted and caused issues which Chrysler is "covering". Don
All they did was disconnect the battery. They said it was fixed. I asked if the Software was updated and was told yes. I will say that clock and gps are correct presently. But as soon as I started the Jeep I got the included splash screen. Which leads me to believe I am back to pre time change software. I checked the version and software is same as old version. I brought technician out and told them and was told they checked and were told it was latest software. I also told them about the splash screen. They said bring it back if the problems come back. They didn't charge me a penny so hard to complain. But I think in a couple of days that splash screen will change to required up date .
Don, they did not do the update, they only cleared the ota update from memory. That is what my dealer did for me when i could not get the ota update to install. I was able to successfully install the usb update today.
GuruNWLD4, Its acting up again as you would suspect. Completely off this afternoon. I tried two large button reboot and saw no improvement. I then had jeep parked for about an hour started it up and GPS was working again but now clock is off by ten minutes. Similer to other day. How did you download the update ? I don't get a download option since my vin says I have all updates even after battery disconnect. Don
Don, you will need to speak to uconnect. I don’t know what version you should be on. When I entered my vin it told me that I was due for an update and gave the new version number of 18.45.01 and the option to download.
I spoke to about four uconnect people and one Navtec person and could not get past "You have to take it to the dealership. There is nothing we can do over the phone." -Don
Hey guys - Just picked up a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited yesterday and had this issue. Holding down the talking head and the green phone button for thirty seconds with the ignition on, turn off the ignition, open the door for 30 seconds, close the door, start the car....that one worked for us.
Shernandez01 answered 5 years ago
I'm STILL dealing with this issue - have been without the entire system for a month. Finally was able to get to the dealership today - they just told me that my radio is bad and that's why it won't take the update. So, unless I purchase a new radio, I won't be able to get the updated Uconnect software. How can this possibly be right? The radio - and everything connected to it - was working perfectly fine right up until the moment I scheduled the update. Beyond annoyed now.
Shernandez01, I would not accept that answer. If everything was working when the OTA update was pushed out, thats the problem and the update needs to be cleared from memory. The Chrysler service bulletin number is S1908000157. It includes the procedure for clearing the update. Once the OTA update is cleared they should also be able to download and install the corrected update from uconnect. You can also try calling customer care, 800-992-1997 and tell them whats going on. They can contact the dealer directly for you.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee owner here. I am in the particular boat of having tried the OTA update, gone to a dealer and gotten a USB stick with an updater, and tried downloading from the FCA site onto my own USB. I’m now stuck in the loop of the hourglass “Wait 2-5 minutes” and “Insert USB”, with no access to any of the radio screens. After leaving the Jeep off overnight, I actually got more than 90% through step 11/15, the dreaded “Embedded Air Card” fiasco, but it restarted again after that, and I’ve only gotten to 1% on that step each of the last three times since. For those of us who are past the point of doing the Schedule Update procedure outlined above, what can we do to get out of the hourglass/USB loop? Thanks for all of the great info in this thread, gang.
I promised I would not download the upgrade until I heard from all my Chrysler/,Dodge/Ram brothers that Fiat/Chrysler had resolved this "update". Well guess what - my current version - v17. Nn. Nn - now will not keep proper time, nor recognize where I am (via navigation map). Do I take my beloved Ram to dealership and demand they fix (,or will I get the , "You need a new GPS/Entertainment system" response from them? (uConnect website says I can upgrade.) Sincerely, Mr. DontKnowWhatToDo
GuruL97MV, v17 does not have the gps rollover update, you will need to update to v18 to correct the gps. Download the update and install it. Be sure to follow the instructions. Make sure you download the zip file, unzip it (i believe it needs to be unzipped using 7-zip which can be downloaded for free). Copy the unzipped files to a usb that contains no other files or folders. Then follow the rest of the instructions. Mine took 30-35 minutes to complete.
GuruQV3VS, did you Unzip the dowloaded file and then put only the unzipped files on the usb, with no other files or folders on the usb? I believe there were either 4 or 5 individual files after unzipping.

Jeep Cherokee latitude 2015 Having the same issues as many here: Intermittently no radio, no phone, no backup camera, black screen. After countless scheduled updates, that always failed, took the car to the dealer, three times. Last time they worked with Chrysler, had the car for four days but they could not fix it. They said the radio needs to be replaced, and it will take 4 to 6 weeks to get one. The issue is now worse, the screen goes from "wait 5/10/20 minutes" to a very bright white screen saying to "...upload usb". Downloaded the update to a formatted usb but the radio does not recognize it. Anyone have found a fix for this?
badJeepCherokee15, did you unzip the downloaded file and put just the 5 unzipped files on the usb? What format is the usb, mine was fat32 and is a newer usb.
ScottyBfrom73 answered 5 years ago
GuruNWLD4, Thanks for responding. Yup, I unzipped the file and put the five files onto a freshly-erased USB stick. I'm sticking with it, trying again once more this morning before disconnecting the negative terminal on my battery as advised earlier in the thread. Grateful for any advice. Thanks!

Holy Moley! On a lark, I turned the Jeep Acc on with the USB stick in it and went inside, and when I came out, expecting to spend however long looping over and over, THE UPDATE WORKED. It did a validation check and everything! Stick with it, gang; persistence (and this group) pays off!
Uconnect really screwed the pooch on this one, they should be held accountable for this mess.
badJeepCherokee15 answered 5 years ago
Thank you GuruNWLD4. Yes I unzipped the file and formatted the usb. It is also a new fat32 usb. It is not recognized at all, the screen continues looping between the wait and the upload messages. Next thing I will try is to leave the usb in while I am driving. Some people claim that worked for them, eventually.

I have to post an update because I'm simply at a loss right now....in my last post, the dealership said the radio was bad and wouldn't accept the update. Chrysler agreed to the new radio - and the dealer said they had worked with many of these updates, but mine was the first where the radio could not be rolled back to accept the update. Well, the radio will not be in for a few days, so we picked up the Jeep yesterday. On the way home, the A/C completely shut down (it's still warm in AZ). I thought, hmmm, related???? Maybe. So I let the dealer know what happened. But it gets better. We have a Hum (Verizon) on the vehicle. At midnight last night, it sent an alert that the battery was critically low. I saw the alert this morning, and attempted to start the car. Well, every light, every alarm and even the windshield wipers turned on...but the engine didn't even attempt to turnover. I wish I had a video...it was amazing. Well, now the vehicle is completely DEAD...in my garage...and a non-working radio is the LEAST of my problems. Any car people out there have any idea what might be happening? Can a simple update affect the entire computer/system? If I wasn't stuck trying to find a way to work, I'd be laughing at this nonsense right now. Help?
I feel your pain. On November 11 I went to start my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and the battery was dead, nothing. First time I have had to use the key to get in the car. Jeep ran just fine the Saturday before. Called roadside assistance to jump the vehicle. Got the Jeep started and took it straight to the dealer. Uconnect did come up, black screen. The dealer kept it for thee days and found nothing wrong with electrical system. When my wife picked up the Jeep the Service Manager told her that Uconnect was dead due to a software update issue and they have no fix. Chrysler is aware of the issue and working on a fix, some time in January. What Chrysler seems to forget is the Uconnect system is more than a radio, it controls the, back up camera HVAC, heated seats and steering wheel. I would laugh but we have a winter storm warning in Northern New Mexico for Wednesday thru Thursday.
Just had my 2014 Grand Cherokee Uconnect update done. The key for a success update is DO NOT have the keyfob near the vehicle when the update is running. I scheduled mine, locked the Jeep, and walked away for 20 minutes. When I returned and started the Jeep the message for needing the update was gone and everything works— phone, NAV, backup camera. Hope this helps.
GuruNWLD4, After returning from a 1200 mile trip with Spotty GPS (It seemed to become useable after a period of time when the Jeep was turned off) I checked driveuconnect with my vin and now I had a update available. I downloaded it and unzipped it, and installed it on a 2 gig Thumbdrive although it said in procedures to use a 4 gig. I was able to follow the firmware update - sort of, as some procedure screens looked different than what my car was showing. Such as screen 8. In procedure step 12 "Repeat previous step 11. Turn ignition back ON then OFF, Open and Close the Driver’s door and wait 60 seconds." I was not positive I was supposed to restart the Jeep but I did. Anyway I got past nail biting step 11/15 on NAV screen and now have 18.### installed with correct position and time. Thanks for the help, Don
Shernandez01 answered 4 years ago
The saga continues - NEW battery installed...dead in less than 24 hours. The problem is that the update TRIES to complete continuously...even when the car is not running. The screen remains on and the full dash remains lit. I can only assume this is killing the battery. Our dealership told us today that it is our problem to deal with - that they didn't do anything that would drain the battery. Clearly NOT true. But according to them, we have to find a way to get the car to the dealership. Originally they said the radio would be available in about 4 days. Now they are saying up to TWO WEEKS. My contact at Chrysler is not responding...anyone have any suggestions on who to contact to get something done?
Hernandez, Is your Jeep one of these years in this recall? Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling nearly 700,000 SUVs because of electrical faults that can affect engine startups. The fuel pump relay problems in certain Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango models from 2011 to 2013 can interrupt electrical current, preventing engines from starting or contributing to stalls, the automaker said Thursday. Don
Shernandez01 answered 4 years ago
Donald - No, mine is a 2014. I saw this recall today, too. I'm so frustrated. This is the second weekend without my vehicle all because of a stupid software update. It's absolutely ridiculous. Today I emailed the manager of the service department and attempted to copy Customer Care - but my email to Chrysler bounced back to me stating that my case was closed. It's frustration at every turn. Why hasn't this debacle been in the news at all? Maybe it's time...........
Shernandez01, I am no advocate of facebook, but sometimes it can serve a purpose. Post your story on the Chrysler facebook page and on your own page. I had an issue last year with my cable company and after a scathing post on Facebook I had a call back within 30 minutes to resolve my issue. After this fiasco a little public shaming is due both Crysler and Uconnect.
Shernandez01 answered 4 years ago
GuruNWLD4 - That's a great idea. I'm not sure what's worse - being without my vehicle for who knows how long, or the complete lack of ownership of the problem. I even found MORE information online about an update just last year the was endlessly cycling like ours....and guess what....killing batteries. There's obviously a precedent - they just need to own it.
Shernandez01, good luck to you, keep us posted.
A few days ago I received a letter from FCA- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. In this letter were instructions and a USB flash drive for updating the GPS software in my vehicle. As you can see from my previous posts I already took care of this issue. Its great they sent it but why wasn't this software sent out before Daylight Savings time change, not weeks later. -Don
I have the same problem with my 2016 Chrysler 300 . I called Uconnect Customer Service and they are very aware of the problem. They told me to call my dealership and they will fix it for free. I'm dropping my car off tonight and it will be fixed by tomorrow. The dealership is ver aware of the issue also. The dealership confirmed they will fix it for free.
This has been a complete pain in the ass and should be illegal, but enough complaining cause it won’t help. I’ve followed the steps repeatedly and it did t really work. This most recent time following them I did it slightly differently. I did the 3 minute part, reset the radio. Turned off ignition. Opened the door. Waited 2 seconds. Closed door. Pushed electronic door lock button. Waited, in the car, for 10 minutes. Started ignition, update popped up. Immediately pressed set time without changing anything. Started navigating to settings. Before I could a new screen popped up telling me to wait and that it was installing the update. It has been 5 minutes or so now and it is stuck at 66%. No idea if it will finish and be fixed or if it is just more fucked now. I will update when I know. If I wasn’t planning on selling this soon I’d rip the whole system out and replace it with an aftermarket one like android auto. Uconnect is a travesty and everyone involved should be ashamed of it. It has completely turned me off all Chrysler vehicles that use Uconnect. I thought Fords system was bad but compared to this it is the best user experience I’ve had.
Shernandez01 answered 4 years ago
Badjeepcherokee15: I just saw your post. Sounds like you are stuck in the very same loop I was. That continuous cycle of screen messages was the reason my battery kept dying. My Jeep is now at the dealership...waiting for a new radio, that is now on back order (well, the board needed for the radio is back ordered) until sometime in December. No further update...and December has 31 days. I won’t be surprised if I don’t get my Jeep back until the first of the year. I have a feeling MANY vehicles are affected by this...,hence the back ordered parts. Good luck....I hope your dealership is working with you. I have a loaner car from ours.
Good news! I just got the USB update from FCA...followed the instructions and it fixed my GPS/Uconnect. I did the OTA update a month ago and my radio then started staying on for 45 seconds after shutting off the engine. I even changed the setting back to turn off the radio immediately upon engine shut off but it still kept happening until I used the FCA usb update. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully because it looks like you can mess up the unit if you don’t.

the dealer says i need a new radio. uconnect cycleing between wait 2-5 and insert usb screen
Shernandez01 answered 4 years ago
RON2014cherokee - do not accept that answer. I was told the same thing. And if your Jeep has the same glitch mine did - that cycling between messages will drain (and KILL) your battery. I've now been dealing with this since October 1. Just got my car back on Monday with the new radio - but they did NOT install the update. So, 10 minutes after I picked it up, I got the message that an update was needed. The EXACT same message that started this craziness. I'm stuck in a Groundhog Day movie!
I did this update however it kept prompting me there was an error and to remove the USB and start over. I took it into the dealership, the update fried my entire radio. I have to go back Monday and start a star case.
I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie with the radio/navigation system. I had attempted the latest UConnect update (18.XX.XX) using a flash drive sent to me by FCA but the update froze at Unit 11 showing 1% complete. Repeated attempts had the same result, always freezing at Unit 11. Now I am stuck in the endless update cycle with the system asking for the update USB drive to be inserted. I have to disconnect the negative battery lead or the battery will discharge due to the radio endlessly trying to update. I tried downloading the update software directly from UConnect and unzipping to a USB flash drive, but I get the same results with the update freezing at Unit 11. I have taken the truck to my local dealer who were unsuccessful in updating the system and told me my "radio was bad" and had to be replaced, just as others have experienced. The radio was working fine before this botched update but the dealer "can't explain that"! Can anything be done to reset the radio AFTER THE UPDATE CYCLE STARTS AND THEN KEEPS LOOPING??
Don’t follow the instructions they sent, get in your vehicle and put it to sleep, close the door wait a bit open the door and close it again. Place the USB into the slot and then turn the vehicle to accessory on, do not start it. Get out and check it 22 minutes later. This worked for me and my dealership said I needed a new radio as well. Good luck.
I also attempted the USB update from FCA this AM. Each 30 minute attempt failed. I removed the USB and the screen is stuck on a loop “wait 2-5 minutes, the insert/ retry USB. Ugh. There have been way too many recalls and problems! (I have a 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk)
Ugh.... my Cherokee has been at the dealership for days. Apparently the update fried the whole screen, radio, etc. They want to charge $2500 and say they “can’t prove it’s from the faulty update. Complete BS. And of course my case manager at Uconnect is “out of the office” this week.
Just an update from my earlier post: My radio/nav system was stuck in the update loop for about 3-4 weeks. After some 30-40 update attempts, mine finally completed today. I had read other posts saying to keep trying the update while driving around. That’s exactly what I did, and it finally got past unit 11 (embedded Sierra wireless card) and completed the install. Now everything is working again. I have read that this issue occurs in vehicles where the Sierra wireless card is failing. This card is what connects the vehicle’s UConnect apps and navigation to a cellular network for data. You may have experienced intermittent connectivity issues with UConnect or inaccurate navigation. I didn’t notice this before, although I was having a screen pop up saying “vehicle phone needs service”. Bottom line: if you’re stuck in the update loop, don’t give up. Keep trying as you drive around. If you luck out like I did, then the install will eventually finish. If not, then installing a new radio or sending your current radio to navrepair.com (which advertises repairs to radios with issues like these) may be your only options. If you haven’t started this UConnect update, and you’ve had issues with navigation problems or had the “vehicle phone needs service” screen popping up, then don’t ever start the update. If you do then you may be stuck without a functioning radio and settings accessed through the touchscreen for weeks!
@Lgood24 THANK YOU SO MUCH! It worked on 2015 Jeep Cherokee trail hawk. Make sure the time is correct (am V pm) Radio back up and working!
I have a 2015 Renegade. I did the update without any issues but then noticed that the time would not hold. No other issues with the radio or the nav system that I've noticed, only the issue with it keeping time. Every time I turn off the car it looses time. I emailed UConnect and was told to take it into the dealership. The dealership said they did the update (which I had already done) and it was holding the time and they charged me $28. Not a big deal, except nothing changed and it still would not hold the time. So I called UConnect and they gave me the whole USB thing to do. I tried that and got an error message that said "Failure to Authenticate ISO". Still no issues with the system except the time thing. Emailed UConnect again and they called me back to say that I need to take it to the dealership. The dealership already said they were going to replace my radio but even if this is covered under my extended warranty, the deductible is still $100....for something that UConnect did? I don't think so!! I know that a new radio is not needed, mine actually works just fine. It seems odd that ONLY the time won't hold. SMH!!! I will try the suggestions here but I'm not sure if they will work because I've already installed the update....except my system does not show that it has been updated. This is ridiculous!!! UConnect needs to fix this issue and stop jerking around their customers!!!
I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee and am experiencing software update issues. My screen won't even stay on longer than 5 minutes. It will turn on, then go completely black, I'll get a message saying "wait 5-10 minutes", then the update with run and say its completed... and then it will reboot...go completely black. Its like the never ending cycle. I downloaded the new software to my blank USB and tried it tonight....and nothing. My screen won't even stay on long enough for me to know whats going on. Has anyone experienced this cycle?
Shernandez01 answered 4 years ago
Emily, that’s EXACTLY what happened with my 2014 Grand Cherokee. My original update failed. FCA had me take it to the dealer. After they attempted the update, it was stuck on the very same endless loop you described. Unfortunately it killed my battery...and a second battery we installed at the suggestion of the dealership. The radio had to be replaced...something in the update is corrupting the boards on the radio...and it has happened to many people. Contact FCA (Chrysler), and tell them what happened. They’ll have you take it to a dealership. If they confirm it’s the radio, do NOT let them charge you for the radio. This is on Chrysler, and the entire fix should be free. Once my new radio was installed, the update worked, and the whole system is working. Good luck...this was not a fun experience for us.
Yes! Called UConnect and had to take it to the dealership. They have had my car for 3 weeks now and no resolution. I have a case open with Uconnect, but the dealership and case manager cant seem to get in contact. The replacement radio costs $2500 and no one is taking responsibility. It is infuriating.
@Shernandez01 I am sorry for the bs and headache you’re dealing with.. but any chance if the dealer ran any DTC? Usually when pulling the battery out should do the job and reset the system and all the modules will reset. One way you can tackle this issue is by getting a test light to check your fuses to see if any fuses causing the issue. If that doesn’t help try doing this volt meter test. Watch the video in the link I provided. Hopefully we can resolve this nasty issue you’re having. https://www.700r4transmissionhq.com/jeep-grand- cherokee-battery-draining/
Thank you for the responses! I never realized how something like “software” can completely screw things up if it’s not working correctly - especially when it controls your heat, radio, everything! It just seems crazy that everyone is experiencing the same issues and there is no easy answer or fix yet. Or there could be..$2,500 later..or a new radio later... I tried the USB again this am and got this message .... I am going to try pulling the batter now.
Has anyone successfully fixed the update problem where the update shows minimal progress and then shuts off and the screen switches between the “wait 2-5 minute” and “plug in the USB connection” screen. I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee limited. This is a very long thread and haven't seen if anyone has found a solution.
So here's the scoop and unfortunate solution to the same issue on my 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie. 1 I tried to update the system myself several times to no avail when I received the notice from UConnect. 2 I took it to my dealer, who twice tried to update and in both cases, they could not. 3 On the second visit, in addition to trying to update the GPS, they diagnosed my system as faulty. (For this they charged me $150. ) 4 They offered to replace the unit for $895. When I said I was going to call UConnect, the service rep offered me the the phone number to call. 5 I called UConnect, who had a selection in their greeting specifically to report a problem with my radio/GPS. (I think it's selection #4 in their phone greeting) 6 They took my call, called the dealer, and called me back within 24 hours and said they would replace my unit at no charge. (Funny the dealer did not suggest this might happen) 7 The dealership is replacing my unit on Monday. I will be asking them to refund the $150 diagnostic. 8 I was worried all along they would deny any no-charge replacement, as I have 56k miles on my truck. But that did not seem to be an important fact to UConnect. (We'll see about the diagnostic) I suggest this is the only real solution to this problem if your GPS update doesn't work. Good luck!
I called UConnect back and they told me that there was a bug in the software and that I need to bring the car into a dealer for diagnostics—It made me wonder why UConnect would have originally told me how to download the update and then walk me through the process on the phone while doing the update a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, I took the car to the dealer and the short story is that they couldn't fix it and are ordering a new radio. Should be here in a couple of weeks . . . It's unclear to me why a software update would require a new radio.
I ended up bringing the car into Jeep where they tried to fix the issue. In the end, UConnect and the Jeep dealer worked together to replace the entire radio free of charge. Vehicle warranty expired 4 months ago.
2015 Dodge Durango. I tried installing NV the update via usb twice, didn’t work. Dealership says I need a new radio. It keeps cycling between insert usb drive and wait 2-5 minutes. I’ll keep trying the different hard and soft reset techniques discussed here but so far no luck. Navigation etc. Air and heat will no longer function correctly. Battery died twice. I have pulled the fuse and disconnected the negative cable to the battery overnight. Still nothing. Dealership wan tea $1000 to replace the radio.
