bmw running hotter than usual
my 2015 BMW 328i (f30) usually runs right under
the middle mark between 160° and 250° which is
(i’m guessing) somewhere around 200° and i’ve had
it a little over a year. a few days ago i ran over a
huge wooden block that looks like it was used to
put behind a parked trailer tire, it was literally as big
as my head and it made such a loud, scary noise.
we didn’t realize what it was or how big it was until
it was too late, since this has never happened
before i obviously didn’t know what to do, i tried
going forward to see if it was gone or stuck and yep
it was stuck! sounded like we dragged it a little after
hitting it so we got out, laid in the middle of the
street trying to get it out from the middle of under
the car. we got it out and drive not even a minute
home, checked what was leaking and it looked and
smelled like water. but lately it’s been running hotter
than usual. it hasn’t actually “over heated” yet but it
just gets hotter than it ever has, the faster you go
the hotter it gets. over 40mph it starts getting closer
and closer to 250° but as soon as the car stops, not
in park, not turned off, just at a stoplight it goes
back down to normal almost immediately. we put
coolant in it because it was pretty low and
obviously that’s the first thought when your car over
heats but it hasn’t seemed to help at all. just
wondering if anyone else has experienced this and
knows what’s wrong?
