oil change

Change oil soon light is on. I've had the car 7 months, but have only driven 1200 miles. Is it necessary to change oil now?

It depends on when the car has previously had the oil changed. Personally, I'd change the oil. I don't want to risk having the engine throw a connecting rod through the block. If that happens, it basically means you either need to buy a new engine, or send the car to the scrapyard. If the car is giving you the change oil light, I'd get it changed. However, that's just me. I don't mean to scare you about the engine blowing up, but without proper maintenance, that can very easily happen. I hope this helps.
One of the biggest factors are the humidity and if you drive short distances where the car never fully warms up. Change oil more often like tennis says if you leave the car out in the rain and you only drive a mile or two to the grocery store. If you garage it and you drive longer distances when you drive you could change the oil once or twice a year.
