car won't start after using back up key to open door

Asked by GuruXRW9F Nov 12, 2018 at 02:53 PM about the 2016 Hyundai Sonata

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I used my back up key to open the drivers side door.  Now my key on the fob
and the fob its self won't work.  I can put the key in the engine but it won't turn
on. The back up key won't turn on the engine either.

If your key won’t turn when you put it in the ignition, sometimes when the front wheels are not pointed straight ahead, try to rock the steering wheel left and right while trying to turn the key that will usually allow you to turn the key and start the engine. The switch is not where the key is inserted, the switch is in the lower part of the steering column, there is a rod that goes from the key point down to the slide switch in the column, it’s around 18 inches long and connects the two devices together, sometimes if there is stress on the switch because of the position of the front wheels it causes it to bind.
