Key stuck in ignition with 2016 Outback in park

Asked by et1974 Jun 18, 2019 at 10:13 AM about the 2016 Subaru Outback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Before I had even had my 2016 Outback for three years, and while it was still
under warranty, I was unable to get the key out of the ignition after putting the
car in park.  Was told that I probably caused the problem with the way I put
the car in park.  Had to pay over $500 for a new gear shift.  Does this sound
right to you?  I never had a major repair like this in so young a vehicle.

New gear shift, yes. See TSB 16-112-18R (just search it). Shame Subaru does not stand behind parts failing early; crappy parts, or a way to get more $ from their customers.
