Hyundai Sonta 2016 Sport Oil Loss
Asked by Guru7HDYR Jun 12, 2020 at 01:24 PM about the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2016 Hyundai Sport. Had an oil change in February. The first week
of April, the oil light came on and when the attendant at the gas station
checked, I needed 3 quarts of oil. A few weeks ago, I noticed that the oil
light cam on again. Since I am due for an oil change, I made an
appointment for tomorrow but in the meantime, had the gas station attendant
check it. Again it needed 3 quarts of oil!!! I'm no mechanic but this isn't
normal. Anyone else have this issue? If so, how was it fixed.

My 2013 Hyundai Sante Fe 2.0T AWD is consuming oil. I came across a Class Action suite against KIA and HMM to provide Life Time Engine Warranty for certain class Hyundai and Kia owners. Settlement was submitted for Class approval on May 7, 2020. For those that have posted a question about it here, go to your dealer and ask them to do an Oil Consumption Test and if your car is burning oil then Hyundai/KIA will replace your engine. It is a KNOWN ISSUE CASE NO: 8:17-CV-00838-JLS-JDE

I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and mine does the same thing 3 people at mine Dad's Church where He Pastors has 2017 and 2018 Tucsons and they do the same thing. One of the ladies had hers for a month and Her engine blew up and so we are all going to Toyotas now.
I was told that if th engine is replaced...the new engine will only be warrantied for the number of remaining miles left on the original engine? Has anyone else been told that as well? If so, what happens if the second engine has the same problem after you are thru with the original 100,000 miles? Then you are stuck with a second engine at your cost to repair? Is this engine replaced free of charge?
I am in Calgary and our 2013 Santa Fe Sport is using a litre of oil every 500 highway KM!! Looks like if you live in the states you can get a new engine, even with 12000KM warranty I would be happy. Has anyone in Canada been able to get their engine replaced? What year?
To John, I'm also in Canada. My 2014 SF 2.0l turbo uses 1 litre per 1000km. Hyundai did an oil consumption test and got those numbers, they claim that it is within the tolerances. I say BS.
