will a starter from a 2003 chevy silverado 3500 8.1L fit a 1969 c10 with a staggered mount 168 tooth flywheel?

Asked by Joe Jun 02, 2015 at 12:55 PM about the 1969 Chevrolet C/K 10

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I read that some of the newer chevy starters such as the one from a 2003 silverado will fit
late model chevys but are better as they are high torque mini starters. GM stayed
consistent with the mounting holes and teeth when it comes to starters so wouldnt any
168 tooth staggered mount starter work as long as it matches up.

I don't belive they do. You can typically get a gear reduction starter for the older engines. They are more capable than the older direct drive starters
