How many miles for a 2005 Mazda 3 computer to reset?

Asked by ajax88 May 10, 2013 at 12:56 PM about the 2005 Mazda MAZDA3

Question type: General

I took my Mazda 3 to get inspected and it failed for "readiness" twice. The man told me
that I had to drive it around a bit for the computer to reset itself. I'd already driven it a few
hundred miles and was told it was still not ready. How many miles does the car have to
drive to reset the computer?

Generally newer cars set in under 200 miles. You may want to take it to a mechanic (one that can check if your ECU needs SOFTWARE update**) . Other than that you may have another issue that is not allowing you monitors "readiness" to complete.

The mileage quoted for a computer "reset" varies a lot and can be 50 miles or more. But unless someone actually cleared the original code from the computer, the computer won't "reset" because the code is still stored. If the problem which caused the original code has been fixed, and you've driven several hundred miles, have a repair shop check the computer to see if the code is still there. The code has to be cleared first, and THEN you drive the car to reset the computer.
