Cooling System

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Coolant fountains out of the radiator cap hole instead of pulling down, when the
car is started. New thermostat, new cap, no visible cracks.1 hose seems to be
getting thin. Have to add about 1/2 gal every 3 days plus or minus. What is the
issue here?

if you have no visible leaks you should have a chimerical block test done to rule out exhaust fumes getting into the cooling system.( you would see smoke coming from the tail pipe ) Even though it doesn't overheat as long as you have coolant in it, it could have a blown head gasket permitting coolant to enter the combustion chamber or mixing in the crankcase. Also check the oil dip stick and under the oil fill cap for moisture or milky oil. Check the catalytic converter is not clogged as this too can cause overheating. If you haven't changed the PCV valve this too can cause undo pressure in the crankcase blowing gaskets, seals and yes even a head gasket.
