Why was GPS not current on new Jeep?

I purchased my 2019 Jeep Cherokee in 2019.  Even then, the GPS was
seriously outdated.  It showed routes to take that were no longer (and have not
been in at least 10 years) legitimate routes.   Why do I need to purchase an
update for my GPS when the one I originally purchased was not even remotely
current?

there maybe an update that the previous owner didn't care to do, ask the Jeep Dealer to find out for sure
